i do because it is very diffcult being in the hearing worlds!

Not too much difficulty.

However: I don't use the phone. I'm fortunate to be married and my husband is (usually) willing to make whatever phone calls are needed.

I use captions on the TV. I used to love going to movies; now I rarely go out to see a new movie, preferring to wait until it comes out on a captioned version and I get it through Netflix. I go out sometimes just for the social event of it, but it's not the same thing.

Car radio is not as easy to understand as I'd like.

So, definitely there are challenges in everyday life, but that said, with hearing aids I still have a social life, communicate with my husband, participate in various dog-training events with my two poodles, talk face-to-face with whomever I need to. Could be worse, basically. I'm doing OK, all in all.

Serena, what do you think your main challenges are in the "hearing world?" How would you prefer to handle them?

Yeah,I do find it very hard to be hearing impaired.

Im same way as Beach Girl. I dont use phones and use closed captions on tv. I dont listen to radio and dont have a stereo system in my room.

I like to watch reality tv shows. Most times, it is tough to understand what they are saying so I read closed captions. Like in movies, it is so difficult to watch what people are doing and reading closed captions at same time. It can be so frustrating but Im so used to being deaf. I ignore people when they are having conversation. It can be very lonely. I just deal with it.

EDIT: I know my life would be so different if I'm a hearing person.

definitely for hard for me because I get judgemental people left and right. If I go to my own family's place and watch a movie.... captioning ruins the whole picture for them and hate it if I even ask.

Living in the HEARING world using FM system for recipience communication a fucking nightmare

Living in the Deaf world with pen/paper for communication easy

I do find it frusterating from time to time. I would not say it is difficult.

Yes, I find it difficult. And as my hearing gets worse, it gets increasingly difficult (e.g. can't use the phone anymore).

But I made it worse by comparing myself with hearing people and feeling inferior because I couldn't hear like they could. In my daily life, I didn't interact with a single other HOH person so I felt abnormal. To be honest, I felt ashamed because I couldn't do what everyone else around me could.

Coming onto AllDeaf has helped me to feel "normal", realizing that I'm not alone in my struggles. I still find it difficult being HOH in the hearing world, but I don't feel ashamed of my deafness anymore as it's not my fault. I knew it wasn't my fault beforehand, but now I know it at a deeper level that stops me comparing myself to hearing people; I suppose because I now compare myself to other deaf/HOH people.

I don't think about comparing myself to hearing people because there is no need to since I already know I have a hearing loss despite my interaction with them through speaking and listening. My challenges vary depending on the circumstances I'm in.

For those of us deafies that were born deaf, have no speech and cannot lipread, I'm sure they will have much more difficulty in dealing with the hearing world....For those who are late-deafened, wear HA and can hear somewhat with them, CI's, and can lipread, some "understandable" speech seems it would be "less" difficult...

Wearing my hearing aids have made it easier for me to mingle with the hearing world.

I think that you are fluent in oral language and much benefits from hearing aids, that why.

Does this mean deaf and HOH people in a fake world? I thought I did live in the real world!
No , really , the thing that get me up set the most when talking on the phone
people say the most stupidest things! I will tell a person I am HOH and having trouble hearing them. And the person will say to me " I can hear you fine!" WTF!! How HELL is that going to help me knowing the person I am talking to can hear me OK!! GRRR! And the other one is when there a movie on TV that I really want see and there is no CC! the station called 'THIS' does not have any CC on any on it shows!!

o.m.g. so true!

my hearing aid was broke for a while and it was so difficult for me to not hear nothing. I actually forgot to talk. It was scary.
