Well happy fucking mothers day to me. I've just been called 'a piece of work', 'bitch', 'selfish', 'lazy', and a host of other things by my father. He wants me out, I want out and that's the ONLY thing we agree on. All this started because he wanted to get Maddie's softball bag out of my truck and I told him not to worry about it, I will do it in the morning and he gets all up in my face, hovers over me and crap while I'm working on a graphic for the pastor of my church. He said I have a 'lopsided lifestyle' and that I put the stupid stuff ahead of everything else. And to top it all off - he said all of this in front of my daughter and even got my own child bashing me. WTF?!?!?!?! What the hell did I do? I just told him not to worry about it and he keeps on and keeps on and keeps on and told him to calm down, it will get taken care of in the morning. I got told I was putting him off as a power thing. Whatever the fuck that means.

Sorry to make a rant thread but I feel like I needed to get it out. If I had the means to go right now, I would be packing our stuff and headed out instead of posting here.

Are there any friends whom you know that you can move out and room with them? That is what many deafies do here...find roommates. If not many deafies in your area, what about looking for a room to rent in your area?

I have thought about that, but I would prefer to move out of the area just to get away from him all the more. I've got lumps in my throat I'm so mad! Lord give me a ticket out of here!!!!!!!

Maybe he has Alzheimer's or some kind of dementia. One of the first signs is often losing inhibitions and saying horrible stuff to and about your relatives.

Ai-yi-yi. Doesn't sound like a pleasant situation. Is your dad always like that?

Let's hope that job offer gets firmed up fast...

Have you thought about applying for jobs in any states that have large deaf communities?

DC
Northern VA
Frederick, MD
Baltimore, MD
Riverside, CA
Fremont, CA (might be too expensive)
Austin, TX
Phx, AZ
Boston, MA
Florida (not sure which city has a large deaf population)
A town in Minnesota
Some towns in colorado (have to ask PFH about this )

The reason I said this is where there is a large deaf population, it is more likely these places have more job opportunities and more understanding of deaf needs.

Just an idea..

Botts at the moment I think he's got 'dickheaditis'.

Beachgirl - He's always downed me and degraded me for as long as I can remember but it in the last year or so it has only gotten worse. Even my own mother is fed up with him.

If I could, I would. My barrier right now is money or the lack thereof. I'm just a chicken farmer and not much else. =/

With the way you express your thoughts through writing and how much you know, you are very very highly educated. I think you would get a good job...maybe that good job pay wont be great at first but as you show what you know as you have shown us here, you probably would move up. I know in the Federal Govt, you would have that opportunity .

I second that.

Blame the education part on the fact that I've spent most of my time with my nose in a book over various subjects and I've spent time learning things from other people. Only thing is I don't have a piece of paper that says I'm highly educated. Hopefully in the morning M will call me and I will ask her outright if she's thought about renting one of her rooms out. She'll likely say no, but it's worth a shot.

Many Fed govt jobs at the entry level doesnt require a college degree. From there, you can show what you know and your skills, then it is all uphill from there. It has happened with my hubby and a few of my deaf friends whom have no college degrees.

However, I think many jobs that require editing for writers dont need a college degree..just a good command of written English. Poeple have encouraged me to apply jobs as an editor for local newspapers. I just wasnt interested but it is something you can look into.

It's a bit ironic you mention working for a newspaper - I was originally a Journalism major when I first went to college in 2002-2003. I've been told by my professors that my writing is on par of collegiate seniors. They were shocked because so many underclassmen struggle with the written word. One professor even went so far as to say she really had to look hard to find the errors on my paper. All of my professors have liked my writing style. I once thought about doing freelance writing for various publications such as monthly magazines and so forth. My problem is that I'm such a procrastinator and you often have to submit your material up to six months in advance for consideration for inclusion in the publication.

I've written stuff that has made people laugh until they've cried and just cried until they could cry no more. I just wish I had more 'can do' or motivation to actually try this.

Just try and then let things go from there. You spend a lot of time writing here on AD so what if you set aside an hour that you usually spend on AD to pursue this new avenue?

I could do it. Perhaps I should start with a daily word push to hone my free writing skills and go from there. And I admit I do spend a lot of time on AD.com.

for local newspapers, you get paid per word.

I've had people (especially teachers) suggest that I be a writer as I seem to have a flair for writing.

I tend to put off thing forever and in the graphic design industry, that's a career killer cuz they live by the deadlines. Deadlines must be met.

What would it take to get the motivation? Most of the writers I know say it's strictly a "butt in chair" process - i.e., keep your butt planted in that chair until you've finished what you need to. Don't wait for inspiration; b-i-c and it will come to you.

Anyway - is my memory failing me or aren't you being considered for a USDA job right now? Good writing skills are always a big plus in any Fed job. Your evaluations will take communication skills into account.

Lots of things to be said for a Fed job. I enjoyed working for the government, and now I enjoy a decent pension. Lots to be said for that, too.

I think you'd be good at this.
