I'm just wondering if they make them for people who have a CI. It seems logical to have one. I mean if there's an emergency it can tell them they have a CI (Or had one if it was knocked off in an accident) and that they cannot hear without it. Cannot have a normal MRI. To check their wallet, purse or pocket for the card and so forth.

I did a search and really didn't find anything for it yet. So I'm wondering if any of you know about it or possibly have one.

I have no idea about CI medic alert jewelry. :dunno:

You will have Nucleus ID in your wallet for in case if you get car crash or something injury. The CI will have to use medical bracelet instead medic alert jewelry. This is same as allergy bracelet label.

You can get custom made bracelets/pendants. The Medical ID Store has tons of customizable options.

I have also seen bracelets that simply said "No MRI".

That is good idea. MRI is for brain injury by car crash, migraine and brain tumor. It need to cut the skin to remove the magnet size like small hearing aid size before MRI. When it's done with MRI and put magnet back in electrode.

I don't have a medical bracelet or anything but I do have a CI card stating I have a cochlear implant and I cannot hear without it, which has my address, my CI hospital and phone numbers. I have it in my purse but I don't always carry my purse

It is a very good idea to have a medicalery bracelet. I have one stating Deaf: uses Hearing aids and lip reads as well as my allergies. The american site for medicalert is medicalert.org
a medical bracelet is more ideal than having it in your wallet or phone. Most paramedics are too busy trying to save your life then checking your wallet for medical info hence why most people with important medical info have a medicalert cuz the paramedics and or hospital will call medicalert and give them the id number on the bracelet and medicalert will tell them all info attached to your file

A medical ID bracelet from medic alert or any other source of medical IDs will work- they're all custom-engraved with your medical information.

A wallet card is NOT sufficient identification. It, unlike a bracelet, has a fairly good chance of being separated from you during an emergency or disaster situation. Even if you do manage to keep it on you, those who are taking care of you will probably not look through your purse/wallet on scene. If they bother to check in the hospital, it may be too late.

I'm going to get one and I'll let you all know what steps I took on it. Or if any of you do please let us know. I'm looking around now.

yes, that's what I do, but I also warn my family as well so they can be clear to the doctor that I have an implant.

but more like, they can see the surgery stitches or your processor that would give them a clue.

I don't think I could ever stand wearing jewelries.

Er...most people don't have a CI. Assuming that one's processor has been knocked off (very easy to do), it can be easily overlook by the medical staff.

I wouldn't assume nor trust they will figure that out. Consequently, I have a necklace with a medical alert to make sure they see that when "working" on me. Believe me, I prefer not to wear jewelry (besides my wedding ring) but I rarely ever notice I have the necklace on. A small price to pay to make sure the medical community doesn't screw things up.

When you fill out the medicalert when u purchase it online u fill out every medication u have, allergy, condition, medical device etc and they will email u back with what they think is priority to be on there and u work with a worker on ur medicalert there service was superb when I bought mine and i got it very quickly.

I'm not worrying about it because I have my wallet with my CI card, my scar, my family, and my processor that would give them all the clues they need.

one time I was in a hairdressing school and this teacher starting combing my hair. She made an mistake as she got too confident and knock off my processor. She apologize, and I told her I apologize for not letting her know that I had it on. So she said "NO, NO! Don't apologize to me. It was my fault as we are trained to check for these things first... like earrings, hearing aids, etc." I'm sure doctors are trained too. And if they are like this teacher, they probably wouldn't even check for bracelet either as they probably think health probably should not be a reason not to be scan.. but forgotten there CI to consider (or other medical devices).

"Shrugs" It's your life. You have too much trust that somebody is going to figure this out. I have been around the block far too long to believe it.

FYI - If you are wearing a necklace, they are pretty much guaranteed to find that as they will be checking the heart and neck for a pulse and so on.

I don't wear necklace, I hate them. Some people are allergic to jewelries. for me, My skin is very sensitive so I tend to develop eczema on any kind of frictions.. and most jewelries do that. I hope doctors don't depend on jewelries for information!

My daughter wears wristband in case we are separated simply to let anyone who might come upon her know that she does not speak. Her signing is still 'young' and not readily obvious to even her regular terp or teacher, never mind a stranger in a strange situation. With a wrist band, at least there is a start to contacting someone.

Honestly, I don't think I would want to put my faith in a hospital employee, in an emergency situation, noticing something as important as a magnet in my head. They have for more important things to do than check your head for a scar, especially if your injury is elsewhere. If you are seriously injured, chances are your clothes could be cut off of you and stuffed in a bag before you even get to the hospital. Before they get around to going through your wallet, you may already be on your way to an MRI, that is if your wallet is still on you and not under your car seat, with the police or who knows where, along with your processor.

IMHO, all CI patients (and anyone else with metal inside their body) should be given a med ID bracelet upon implantation.

I think anyone who does that are irresponsible , probably too irresponsible that they shouldn't be working at a hospital. There is such thing as teamwork. As one is busy preparing me for MRI, another worker can do some investigating.

As for the first, that is understandable. Most folks don't have that trouble and thus my interest in getting others to consider this option. If it doesn't work for you, it is what it is. Just realize the medical community is full of people who make mistakes just like anybody else. Getting a MRI with a CI implant in your head is a serious issue and nothing to sneeze at.

Secondly, it is not that doctors depend on such things but they are very invaluable to them. It doesn't have to be about CIs. If you have diabetes, a heart condition and on it goes...it can save one's life period. Basically, it allows them to treat people much more quickly with less errors. They currently don't have the technology to use a "Star Trek" like gitzmo to "scan" your body and have all the facts at hand.

wait, so you want some random worker to be tasked with inspecting your entire body, including shaving your head hair, in a critical situation, to search for scars, to avoid the effort of wearing ID?
