Which is better?

Highlander, you missed my point, that time out is a joke anyway, what I was trying to explain is that, here is an example, I am the hacker,

I had my computer programmed to listen to wireless communications.

I drive up to your place, and sit and wait.

Whenever your equipment, for example Wii, laptop, etc needs to connect to your wireless router, they have to scream, Hello myhost, my MAC ID is 00:00:00:00:00, my password is whateverpasswordis

My laptop will pick that information up then I wait for that device to get disconnect, then I made my computer a imposter to that machine and fool your wireless router into thinking that my machine is your machine.

Get it?

You have to be good at programming and set up system. Friend of mine have done that and it works. The wireless is NOT a one way system, you can set up top full mofo security you could get on router, but on the computer, there is nothing to stop it.

That is why you can't say it is fool-proof, but I can say, you have tried your best and get the best security to decrease the risk, but not elimate the risk entirely.

You see, why do government IT dept prohibited our president Obama from using wireless? That is because they KNEW it is not 100% fool-proof.

That's right, I agree with him. the wireless is not fool proof, but wired connectivity is, becuase you can not reach the router from the outside, haha. So in the example of the White house using the latest technology now, they don't use the wireless, where the people in the outside world wouldn't be able to hack their system. Wired connectivity would be hard wired around the house, to make it safe. But come to my mind, if a centre uses wireless system, such as univeristy, they use VPN to access, is it fool-proof, or is it not?

VPN is not fool-proof but good enough. it depends on how its IT department sets up its security - what kind of security software/protocol is bring used and how is it distributed.

Even the wired network still poses security risk, there is still nothing that is 100% foolproof. Wired network increases security, depending how it was set up.

What you can do is be viligant, and keep as much security as possible, the more security installed, the less chance it will get hacked but not eliminating them.

In 6 weeks, I will be getting Networking + course, and plan to expand to Security + and Server + This is to help me expand and understand and improve the networking security.

I am pretty much devoted myself into Networking career, including Videoconferencing. I love my career to death.

I like the way you work for, and focus within the network. When I purchase my first home (which is hopfeully very soon) I am willing to set up a strong network system around my house, as the wires will be hard wired and strong security, but I have to learn a lot how to set it up strong enough to keep a good connectivity. My current house I rent (moving again this weekend anyway) is having problems connecting the internet wirelessly in the middle of the night, my router kept disconnecting which frustrates me. Anyway, apologies if my topic goes off

Yeah, the VPN system is what I like the system they work with at campuses, I am sure all universities that have wireless access to student uses this system to put them in a limited yearly access of fees such as $10 for 2GB a year.

are you gonna go for SANS certification as well?

having an access to VPN with SSL is great to have because it provides you a secured connection wherever you are especially when you're using public wifi.

HA!

Sure, government has best security system, care to explain this?

Hackers stole data on Pentagon's newest fighter jet - CNN.com

For two whole years, no one knew about this until now!

Like I said, there is NO such thing as 100% fool-proof, true hackers will laugh at you!

Umm Government don't have any wireless device for network and you send me the link and blamed to wireless?

Okayyyyyy.

Again you keep avoid my question. Do you know what is key timeout.

I am sure their IT Is too lazy to set up network correct and don't bother to use key timeout.

In fact, you are anxiety about hacker too much and not good for your health.

FYI,
I passed network+ in 8 years ago. I beat you.

Guess you can't get my point across.

Even with wired that has better security than wireless, yet wired networking system got hacked anyway, how can wireless be 100% immunity?

That is a possiblity, I need to talk with my associates at my work to see where I could promote to. Right now, I am eyeing on specific position at my work, and may eventually move up to next level. I have been with my work for 2.5 years I mean two and half years, and still going strong.

Positions related to Networking Security right now is hot! I do not see potential decline in that area. :)

ah... good luck! my good friend's a network security manager. he has it all.

Yes, yes. Sometimes, people can feel vulreanble (sp?) if they have confidental files in their laptop and can be possible if a smart hacker who knows how to hack public wifi via VPN.

vulnerable :) and no the hacker does not need to hack public wifi via vpn. it's public. it's free for all. point is - the hacker is taking advantage of people using public wifi because it's unsecured. Some morons would access to their banking sites via public wifi. That's a :nono:

A safe way to work on private stuff when using public wifi is to use VPN...if you really need to.... otherwise - just wait till you go home.

Then your link is pointless about wireless.

Go ask your professor what is key timeout. Noob!

Cool, you can ask him and see what his response whether wireless security is 100% fool-proof or not. Of course, he may say it is pretty much fool-resistance instead.

Let me know. :)

hmm so if one hacker tried to get in but typed in wrong passwords a few times... the router gets locked out like you said. but what about for other authorized people? do they get locked out too? or does the router lock out the specific target? that can be easily defeated by reproducing MAC Address.

Locked out for new user who try to join the network.
