It is a symbol of heritage... The ones that abuse it are the Racist ones. So why blame the flag!! Blame the ones that abuse the flag. Blame the Hate Group, not the Flag that they have misrepresented!!



It is like blaming the Gun that shot someone. When it was actually the person that did so.

If it isn't intrinsically linked to slavery, why did we fight the civil war?

because Abraham Lincoln was willing to use the force to enforce its federal law and to preserve the Union when the southern states seceded. He believed it was illegal... thus must enforce it

And they seceded because they believed that States should have the right to decide whether or not slavery was legal. Still directly related.

Nope... Re read the reasons why the Civil War started. And re read that the Northern folks are the ones that brought the slaves in the first place. Under a different flag. But that flag is O.K.

The reason why the Confederate Flag is causing the controversy today is because of how certain racist groups such as the K.K.K. and other hate groups represented it.

well in that case - if you look at way earlier in this thread, I voted that the Confederate Flag is racist IMO but I don't hold grudge against anybody who waves it.

I disagree. I think it represents a horrible wasteful war that was fought for bad reasons. I think it was fought for finacial gain for the few, on the backs of the poor and weak. It is inseperably connected to slavery and now hate and prejudice as well. What good is there in the symbol?

Well..I don't think you understand what I was saying in my post. I did said that the flag was symbol of heritage and racism. Actually it is a combination of both. If you know the history of civil war very well, you will know that southern states that had a history of slavery had that flag hanging out. I think many people have forgotten that almost all flags had a purpose. If you go to USSR in the old time, don't you wonder why their flag was red? Almost every communist countries had a red flag. Their symbol is communism!

I simple do not agree with some people's definition for the confederate flag. I don't think they should be banned like guns too. It is just a southern pride.
