Bad bushfires in victoria australia

Yes there are severe bushfires down there every summer. Also I recall mom saying something about that one part of Australia is under water with floods! I think Australia is having a hard time balancing everything!

Im glad that you were hurt and I feel sorry for the FF that was critically injured.

I can't believe no one caught my typo!

Correction:
I'm glad that you were NOT hurt and I feel sorry for the FF that was critically injured.

Huh? What?

EDIT: My bad, didn't see Dixie's post about it.

Wherebouts in Victoria is this happening? No where near Geelong, Hopper's Crossing, Lara Lake I hope!

I once had a friend that lived near Geelong - but she has since passed away from cancer.

We're experiencing a very bad situation in Victoria (also South Australia) with bushfires raging out of control in a few parts of the state.

I had a drama filled day myself, my dad and I were evacuated by the police and a friend as bushfires were approaching our property rapidly. We had to rush around loading all my greyhounds into 3 cars and a trailer (tight squeeze lol with so many dogs!), we also hosed the roof of our house and surrounding yards to try to keep embers off.

We left our place at 1pm (I think, it was a mad rush I can't remember the time) and were only allowed back at about 5pm when the police took the blockade off the road after the fires were contained.

A lot of farms, houses, businesses etc were not so lucky in nearby towns though. A golf club burnt down.

It was such an awful day today, extreme temps of 47 degrees (Melbourne broke the record today for the hottest day since 1935 I think) and with gale force hot winds blowing, making the situation critical.
I couldn't even sweat, the sweat dried instantly on me. I am now brown all over from being sunburnt within minutes :cool2:

A local firefighter was badly hurt in my town today, with 50% burns to his body.

I just want to give a big APPRECIATEFUL thanks to those tireless hardworking firefighters who give so much of their time voluntarily to train for these kind of situations. Also to the police for their helpfulness and quick acting alerts to residents to evacuate.

What does 47 degrees Celsius translate into Fahrenheit?

EDIT: Nevermind. Someone else answered my question in the post below.

if I recall correctly from JClarke - it's been in drought for a very long time... I think almost a decade??

Actually, I believe it's entering 12th year this year or wherabout. Not likely to break anytime soon, if ever. :(

Romany,
Glad you got out in time. I'm relieved that my area's spared by the fire. Sadly one town has been wiped out, and they're thinking that 65 people have died so far.

Some of the fires has been lit deliberately *sighs*

Miss-Delectable, do you live in Melbourne?

That's terrible news. I pray there are no more fires out there. I am so concerned about beautiful animals like Koala bears, etc. I always want to fly out there and give Koala bear a hug. I still think they are beautiful.
I am an animal lover, btw.

In my area, correct. But I believe in the victorian area, is more than what I said.

OH Jeez !! What about JClarkie? I believe that he is from South Australia? :(

Haha, no.. I am located 9 hours away from from Victoria.. I am only 3 hours shy from Sydney.

No, I believe he lives in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

That's right.

No, all are mostly in the northeastern areas including the outskirts of Bendigo

Lets hope we get some steady rain to continue with the people's lives. We need water and whatnot.

Can someone tell me whereabouts West Ballina, NSW is in relation to the fires? My mother has a cousin there and we haven't heard from her since Christmas.

West Ballina, NSW is way far away from Victoria. But let me check.

West Ballina, NSW is actually in the Northern NSW (Just before Bryon Bay) Coast on the east side of Australia :)

Thanks!! That helps a lot - I will let my mother know.:ty:
