Yes you read that correctly, Ive been kicked out of school.

What happened was on September 12th I went to make a payment on the tuition of $300, so that they would have it on record that I was paying. Student Accounts told me that they do no accept partial payments. So I asked can we set up a payment plan so that the bill is paid in full by the last day of the semester. The lady said I would have to speak with her supervisor. So I did. The supervisor told me I had to pay half of it down right then and there and they would withdraw the last half in two payments from my checking account in October and November. Well needless to say I couldn't pay half of the tuition down as I only had $300 to give them. The supervisor then said I had to have it by September 16th. I couldnt come up with it by then, so I thought I could just save up the money for the entire bill and I could pay them the lump sum in about a month.

Monday I went to class and my instructor informed me that I had been dropped. I was like WTF?? Surely there is a mistake.

So the next day I called the Registrar's Office to inquire about why I had been dropped. They said there were no holds on my account so they transferred me to Student Accounts to speak with them.

Student Accounts dropped me for non-payment! Even after I had gone in there and tried to pay them something. The lady told me the option was to come up with the money by the 16th or get dropped. I was never told I would be dropped by the 16th.

So I talked to them to see about working out a plan. They told me that I had to pay the tuition in full of $1,160 plus an additional $125 re-instatement fee and a $35 re-enrollment fee. Altogether I have to come up with $1,320 to resume classes this semester.

I am trying to come with the money as I speak. I have spoken with my company's CEO who is a friend of the family and asked if I could do some work for him on his ranch until I came up with at least 1200 as I can come up with the last 120 from my paycheck at the plant.

Not to mention I rearended someone in the plant parking lot yesterday (no serious injuries, and only a minor scratch on the other vehicle which my insurance is taking care of, and my phone just went ape-shit on me. This has not been a good week at all. I'm out to go get me a replacement phone from radioshack. BBL and wish me luck as I could really use some right now.

sssshhhhiiiiiittttttttttt......... is all I can offer for you

Dixie,

Please send an email to the Dean of Students. This can be resolved. Especially since they failed to notify you of policy from the very beginning.

bastards...something close to that happened to me... except i didnt pay on time..and the payment was due that day..which is stupid bc i had gone that same day to pay...
mind you it was my first semester of college..so i had no idea what exactly and how i had to do it...THE WORLD JUST CARES ABOUT MONEY AND NOT EDUCATION! im sorry that had to happen to you!:(

Shittt, ouch. That hurts Dixie. :eek3: Like avwdng29 says, the world cares about the money now rather than the education. The world is getting greedy these days. What a cruel world.

Damn shit! They are greedy over money than education!? UGH! Try to E-mail to Dean and see if it could resolve? :dunno:

I am sorry you had a bad week already!

Could I suggest to take a student loan for tuition and then pay it back just as fast as you would have paid the college directly?

That way you would not accrue interest.

Sorry this happened to you, Dixie.

or what about credit card with 0% APR for 1 year?

Thanks everyone. So far nothing has come up for me to get some extra time working for the company. Ive had a couple of ideas since, but I need to speak with the CEO directly face to face as that would make it easier to explain the entire situation. I called him back and he said he already has one college student working on the ranch (his nephew I assume), and he's still looking in all places where I could come up with extra time to come up with the 1200. I would out right ask him to loan me the money and have it taken from my paycheck weekly until it is paid back, but I don't know if he is willing to go for that or not, but I am willing to try.

This whole situation just outright pisses me off. I talked with my brother about it this morning and he said that from my standpoint because ATU refused my money then I should be going for free, because I tried to pay them and they refused my money. Im still going to come up with the 1200 and finish out the semester one way or the other, even if it means selling my laptop, camera, DVDs and what have you not.

But after I finish out this semester I plan on transferring to UACCM at Morrilton which is a farther drive and only a 2 year community college, but at least I can get my basics out of the way without someone screwing me over. I can probably try to move to Conway after I get my first two years done then go to UCA to finish the degree. But I will never deal with ATU again after this mess!

Sorry to hear about this, Dixie; hope there light at the end of this tunnel and soon....

Geez! That is seriously f*cked up! Pls take Jillo's advice and I am sure you can get it all straightened out especially since they refused your money in the first place.

Sorry to hear that, but you set yourself up.

If people would read the college manual they would see the deadline for payments.

When you are in the real world and you miss a payment on your rent, or car payment, you get your butt kicked out or your car repoed. You work for a company and they tell you to get a project done by a certain date they expect it done! If it's not done you get fired, end of story.

Welcome to college life which will prepare you for the harsh world.

They didn't refuse it, they didn't take it cause they have to have full amount at that time.

Here at my college you have to either pay full before class starts, or come in before class start and setup a payment plan for that semester. No if or buts about it!

Before you move to another college, you better check to see if the college you plan on getting your degree at will accept credit from that community college. There are some community college that no one accepts credit from.

Madison,
I already know about this 'harsh world' you speak of. Ive been stomped on, pushed and shoved around enough to know.

I read the 'manual' and it said nothing about when payments are due. I read all the paperwork I filled out, I was never told or informed that I would be dropped if the tuition was not paid in full by September 16th.

Also here in my state ALL credit from one state institution is transferrable to another state institution.

Also wouldnt it make more sense to take what I give them at that time rather than to refuse it then say I didnt pay??!?!

Doesnt make a lot of sense if you ask me.

You sound exactly like those people in Student Accounts - you probably have a nice cushy desk job pushing paper, and you have parents that are able shell out 1200 at the drop of a hat, and more than likely you have a trust fund you can dip into if mommy or daddy says no.

Try working busting your ass everyday at a poultry plant, working all the overtime you can get, you go home get a shower you go to class, you come home you have to get your kid a bath and to bed. Once thats done, your up until midnight completing homework and your ass has to be out of bed by 4:30 the next morning where it all starts over again. And your telling me. Oh please save the dramatized pep talk for 'her' she needs it more than I do.
