I noticed some students who is still there at Gallaudet like more than 7 years or up to 12 years. I thought they would have to pass courses and satifisy with degree after four years. I feel bad for some students who not achieve themselves to get degree until they done in seven years.

You know most common to complete degree in four years in all university.

CSUN or UNC or Texas A&M or Duke or Harvard or other hearing colleges are strict to finish complete degree in four years due to limit and policy reason. if they didnt, they are asked to find other college to finish.

2 possibilities -

1. they're probably the one who wants to take it as slow as possible because they did not want to "grow up"
2. financial reasons - they're probably part-time students and part-time worker.

I stayed at Gallaudet for 20 years cuz I just didnt want to "grow" up. :giggle:

That is a joke right? Because you are only 36 or 38?

U caught my joke!!! Congrats! LOL! I am being sarcastic...no way I would stay in college that long. Ha!

Weekend is coming and you will feel better. I have been weird lately too, but I am working on it!

Some will stay all the way to get Master degrees. Some changed their major and stay a bit longer. It is really varies of reasons.

Actually, it's quite common for kids to take more then four years to graduate.

I think they're talking about just undergraduate-level students. Graduate study is different issue and it's understandable

Quite a few of the Gally students I know have been there for a pretty long time.

This is untrue. I graduated from Texas A&M and took 5 1/2 years to do it. I changed my major after my sophmore year to secondary education. It was almost like requiring a double major b/c I had to have all of my biology requirements (my choosen teaching field) plus all the education requirements. I never took less than 15 hours during a regular semester and took summer school classes at least one summer session every year. It *required* that long to finish the course work for my degree. I can't think of anyone I knew at A&M that finished in four years, without tons of summer school and taking tons of hours each semester (which at A&M is extremely hard to do). That was *ahem* a few years ago, but I cannot imagine A&M changing their policy that much.

OMG SERIOUSLY!! It is the first I ever heard. I am surprise. You serious? What did you do at gallaudet for 20years? Study in gallaudet for 20years till PhDs or what? I am puzzled? Care to share? Or it is just a serious JOKE.

If there is a deaf college student who stayed at college for 20 years. that would eventually break the world record. LOOL!

Did you not see the giggling icon at the end of Shel's post?

It took me almost 7 yrs to get my BSME, but 2 and half years of that time I spent working in the oil field. So I gained experience for whatever future job i get.

I am assuming that this is a hearing impaired university because I never heard of this place.

well it all varies reasons.. i have seen many who stay longer period at their college to get their degree.. 4 years college doesnt mean you will be done only 4 years.. nope.. 4 years college means it just 4 years colllege course to take all together .. if you take them on time and no change or force you to give up or anything happen.. then you will make it 4 years on time.. if you end up preg or money plm or many reasons, then you will end up more longer time to be done at college to get degree..

i was at gallaudet student.. i made 4 years to stay there.. but i didnt get degree even i finally start on my major at end of fourth year! image ya! :jawdrop: bec of my english course ggrrr ! that hurt me alot but accept.. i figure out if i still keep going to stay there, i might end up to get degree by 4 or 5 more years .. which it means 8 or 9 years to be done.. or LESS who knows..it all depend

Think it's only at Gallaudet?

There are some students at NTID who take 7 years just to get an AOS degree and an AOS degree is easier to get than an AAS degree.

I know a few people who spent 7 to 10 years at NTID to get their AOS or AAS degrees.

I even know a guy who is in community college and still working on his AAS degree... for 15 years.
