Hi Buddies

Just like to see all the feedback from all of you if u either face any Discrimination at work/interview or elsewhere??

unfortunately i face alot of disrimination at the interview few year ago when i applied for Fork Lift Truck and they said i can have an interview coz it match to my training and Qualification i had in the past, but later they ask me why my interpreter here with me, as i told them i am deaf and they said ermm bear with me for a moment and few mins later they said unfortunately i cannot apply u a job coz of ur deafness as u require to hear the sound, as i told them been a driver is abt vision not listening, when u drive u do require to hear the sound or u require to use the vision which one do u recommed ? he said ermm i didnt know deaf can drive, i was so fumin and said fuck u in sign language as the interpreter didnt tell the last bit wat i said to the manager... There other Discrimination i had face last year, one day there was a advertistment require a british sign language tutor, so i apply for that sayin i am a qualifed BSL tutor so i attend to the interview and the bloke just told me are u deaf, i said yeah i am, and he said ermm how can u managed to teach hearing people to learn sign language as u cant talk, then i said wat can i ask u one thing, does BSL involded Oral ?? he said ermm no, excatly BSL is abt Visual and Body Language, and he said ermm i am sorry but i require a hearing tutor, and i said fair enought but remember havin a hearing tutor not allowed to use oral in the class as the hearing have to understand deafness with sign language and think of been in silent world for 2 hrs, the way i teach by actor/ bodylanguage and drawing, no writing(english) at all, he said right, i hope u can find another place so sorry abt that.. that does pissed me off alway so now i am workin in deaf world, a part time bsl tutor for hard of hearing and profound deafness who cannot sign, and full time nurse at deaf hospital for mental health!

Sound like u have not been Discriminated yet! :o

Never been discriminated for the jobs, that's all. a law that say the companies can't say no because of their physical disabled body or somewhat like that. it's ADA, btw.

I have done it couple of times for the job i recently applied to but they still havent called me to set up an interview

Sometimes it's tough to find a job when you're deaf. I know.. I have been there. But sometimes, it's that easy! I once interviewed for a job and right away they hired me right after the interview. It depends on who are these people that are doing the interviews.

i'm sure everybody goes through that... once at an interview, the dude was TOTALLY saying negative things that i couldn't be able to do ANY of their jobs... it was a big turn off.

what pisses me off is my parents say im lazy to get a job but wtf i go out and they all never all me back!

That's soooooooooo cruel!

:madfawk: @ the close-minded people toward the deaf-related things.

Hey, I have been thus that stuff and not hiring me due the deafness issue. One time, I have someone support as my friends. I called to the agent or interview over the tty that I keep the records. Happen, they say - "I am sorry that we could not put you that position as driver. Its required to hear the car honk." So, I show the people that deaf community have trouble to find a job due the deafness the people is looking for job. They were shock and see that sentence. So, they call the office and asked why and that discrimination. The interview respond, "I have no comment." Hang up. Wow, what a rude expression.

You see the ADA have nothing issue do with employement. ADA is provider for us to get interpreter, communicate and etc. It doesn't matter what color we are. However, I don't feel called as myself as the point of view. : I am not disbiblity at all. Why am I typing all this message over here. How do I still remember my password and the username to access this www.alldeaf.com/v2.

In strange thing, I learn that we need is "Bill of Right" and not "ADA". Both are different and we are doing nothing as well. Since I learned that 40 percent of deafness have job and 60 percent who is on SSI. Which is shock me, but I am on SSI purpose to go college at full time. However, I am soon to getting job as part time job since I can manage my classes hours.

I think everyone out there who is hearing is fully of joke. The hearing people is disability too! Why did I mention that? Why do hearing people need interpreter as well? So all of three can communication by interpreter. Since we don't hear by our ears. Hearing doesn't know how to sign with hands. Now hearing is disbility too!

Well said. But explain to me what made you think the hearing is also a disability? I am just curious about your opinion toward it.

Supposedly, if the hearing person ask me if I am hearing impaired, I would give them a cold eye and asked them if they are "DEAF IMPAIRED". It happened to me few times before and it don't make them happy either. I hope it teach them a lesson for not fuckin' with the Deaf people.

Old saying, "Don't get mess with one person, or the large group of people will mess with you."

They don't want to mess with Deaf People. Like Hearing and Blind people, Deaf people can be very smart and can do anything except for ability to hearing. Same thing for the Blind people except for ability to seeing. Don't underesimated them.

What I mean about "Hearing is also a disability?"

In my option as I look at the hearing people. The hearing people doesn't know how to sign language. However they should be disabiblity because they "can't sign" like us we "can't hear". Thereofter, they are disability and everyone is disability.

Hmmm, good idea. I will tell them that they are disability becuz they can't sign the language. It would pissed them off.

I am sorry that some of you have experienced discrimination.

However, you must not allow them to pull you down! I have been pulled down by the jerks who manage retail stores or the like. I think discrimination is more prevalent in the blue collar jobs (i.e. retail, manufacturing, etc) than it is in the white-collar jobs (i.e. office, managerial, information technology, etc).

I very well distinctly remember being discriminated against by Wal-Mart. Amazing story. TELL ME if you want me to tell the story! I should have hung the manager if I could! :)

Anyway, I've done fine all the way through ever since I started in Information Technology. Heck I impressed my interviewer the last time I interviewed (2 years ago) that she hired me on the spot.

All it boils down to is the attitude, the way you present yourself, and the experience you actually have. This applies for the white-collar world.

For the blue-collar world, I noticed the dumbshits out there seem to be dumbshits and play games with us. Just fight and don't ever let them pull you down.
