Amazing, all netbook dont have DVD drive and finally this one did!
unfortunately, this is not release to US due to FCC. But there is rumors that ASUS EEE 10004dn will release to US in mid-April after FCC approve this model.


This Website is in Australia but it is English language so people can read!

why in the world it need approve from FCC? It just a dvd player :shock:

Right, FCC have nothing to do with hardwares, these DVD and netbook aren't in the communications category. FCC mainly focus on what? Communications, that is it. So this rumor is false, I can't image how they can fit in DVD player in crowdy hardware environment inside the netbook.

yes fcc has to do with ANY electronics devices to ensure it doesnt interferes with comunication ,there was a story out long ago when a consumer bought a toshiba hdtv and turned it on and police and coast gurds came knocking on his door because the tv was sending a sos signal reserved for ship emerency trasmiter and they ordered him to not turn tv on ,meanwhile toshbia offered to replace tv free of charge , this what happens if the deveice not tested to comply with fcc

FCC require almost all electronic devices to be approved by FCC that it does not inferferes with commuication before it can be on the market and sold to the public.


Part 15 is a federal regulation that sets exact limitations on the amount of electromagnetic interference (EMI) allowable from digital computing and other electronic devices as diverse as wristwatches and musical instruments, typewriters and telephones. It was promulgated by the Federal Communications Commission under its authority to regulate the airwaves, especially to limit interference with broadcasting.

All electronic devices (unintentional radiators) that contain clocks/oscillators which operate at a frequency above 9kHz must be tested under FCC part 15 Subpart B, radio frequency rules & regulations. The FCC has broken down Part 15 into two categories, Class A (commercial) and Class B (residential).

The FCC's penalties for non-compliant products include halting all distribution, levy of fines and publication of public notices.
