Then sidekicks and pagrs make it equal a hazard as cell phones! One look at the sidekick and *BAM* There goes your car straight to the Junkyard!

<---Doesnt use sidekick and pagers in the car.

And I forgot .....blah blah blah with other Deafies in the car that a heavy more distraction signing and driving at the same time. Hey I'm guilty of that thing but made 3x worse because I have to steer car, sign, and shift my car's gears (it's a 5-speed stickshift)

Must agree with you about the distractions in the car -- I do sign while driving and talking with friends, but am very cautious about where I'm going and so forth.
As for using my mobile phone to text someone, I usually wait until I'm fully stopped at a light or have parked in a safe place. It's dangerous and illegal to be talking/texting on mobile phones whilst driving.

RIGHT water rats 13, NOW im just glad i dont have a worry abt that, now days before i was WAY to addicted to pagers NOW im just thinking twice on safety and know if im being called to work for any reasons whatsoever, THEN i know check locations then just go to that location then check where the location is in that area follow its directions then not worry abt dealing with nerves of laid back poeple! I for one think its nuts to have cells working and running whilist driving i had to yank a cell out of the phone with mom talking to work asking my mom's assitance manager not to talk to mom if she says shes on her way home call back when mom comes home not need an accident when im in there! so mom :-X abt it now !

Deaf people make better drivers than people with normal hearing - and they could be the world's safest motorists, a fascinating new study shows.

That's because they compensate for their disability, said a spokeman for the National Association of Drivers Educators for the Disabled.

"They've always taken in everything with their eyes and as a results, they tend to see everything when they're at the wheel".

And not being able to hear ambulance and other emergency sirens doesn't make deaf drivers unsafe at all. The study found that deaf drivers check their rear view mirrors frequently and can tell immediately if they should pull to the side of the road.

Very true... I think that most deafies tend
to be much better drivers than others.
Therefore, all auto insurance companies
SHOULD give us cheaper insurance !!!

How to make this cheaper insurance
for deafies happen ?

but you have to remember we have "deaf driving" you know swerving all over the road cuz we are signing/lipreading, checking pager/cell/SK for messages and typing back........

True, but however some insurance companies believe that deaf people can't drive safely I got turned down serveral times by insurance companies because of my deafness but heck, I finally got an insurance that doesn't see it that way as the other companies do.....

I never got a speed tickets nor I ever gotten in any car accident since High School...

Some Insurance Companies don't know alot about deafness but getting the wrong ideas in their heads....

Which is sad :(

I don't have a cell phone/pagers/Sk and etc....I hate cellphones...and I do not like it when people use cellphones while driving.....

I don't talk while I am driving but if something going on in the backseats with my children , I have a mirror up top of me where the wheel is at....and I look up and talk to them and watching the roads at the same time....I got used to it :)

:D i always use my pager while driving. i am doing that on my own risk. :P

Hmm, thats why I like to drive alone and
meet others somewhere... I do not like
having another passenger next to me
too distracting for me I always tell them
that I don't want to chat while driving.

However, when I'm at the red stop light
getting so bored i almost always read
a Readers Digest, newspaper etc...

I do not carry any pagers at all...

I am surprised that you got AAA
special discounts ! I have a general
membership with AAA for towing, etc...
I have my own auto insurance with
State Farm for a long time... I recently
checked and compared with AAA's
auto insurance... Guess what ??
AAA auto insurance is still more expensive
than my State Farm !!! That's why
I'm staying with the same old
State Farm....

I disagree with u... Deaf driver can be a good driver if they are pay attention to the road all the time without pagers, pda, cell phone etc...

I would have to be honest that I do sneak a small message on my Blackberry now and then, especially during long drives on the highway.

Thank goodness I can thumbtouchtype - I can type the whole message without taking my eyes off the road. (A lot easier to thumbtouchtype on a Blackberry keyboard than Sidekick -- better tactile feedback)

But don't do it if you don't have to.
