Thomas Rettew Sebrell, 86, husband of Ruby Ann (Foster) Sebrell, of 2 Thompson St., died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Augusta Health in Fishersville. He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Thomas H. and Lillian (Buchan) Sebrell.

He graduated from VSDB in 1946.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Sebrell was employed as a dorm counselor by VSDB for 31 years. Prior to that, he worked in the printing shop in Norfolk for seven years.

He founded the Shenandaoh Valley Club for the Deaf in 1977 and was a Boy Scout Master for many years.

He attended First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include nieces, Norma Bard of Vermont and Eileen Querau of Louisiana, and special friends, Frances and Mike Marzolf.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer H. Sebrell, and a sister, Geneve Grant.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Steve Traylor. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Thomas Marzolf, Paul Pryor, Wayne Frick, Clarence Ruebush, Charles Price and Wayne Dietz.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Marzolf, Glenn Patterson, Rocco DeVito and DaWayne Werner.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Shenandoah Valley Club for the Deaf, 7 S. Augusta St., Staunton, VA 24401.
