Popular heartburn medications linked to higher risk of stroke

Ah, there it is. That's the problem. You ate sub for lunches with bread, right? If it is, that's a lot of carbs. I think you should try fermented bread. Were you tested for candida, and celiac?

In the past, they used to ferment bread for at least month and even 6 months and more, before they made dough and baked fermented bread. Today, they bake bread in 24 hours and do not have enough time to ferment it.

Whole30 Diet used to not allow white potatoes. They changed the program and added it back to the list a few years ago. During your strict diet, did the white potatoes without skins ever give you problem at all?

You have to increase vegetables like kale and lettuce. I know you don't like salad, but you gotta learn to like it. I don't recommend cabbage, because cabbage is harder to digest than lettuce. It also causes bloating, too. Want to go easy on your poor stomach. You should go look up green smoothie recipes, so you don't have to eat salad. No cabbage, ok?

You're very sensitive to lactose (milk sugar). Bad bacteria loves sugar. You said yogurt upsets your stomach. I would like to know the name of the yogurt brand that gives you the problem. Popular yogurt brands like Yoplait is very bad for your stomach because they added additional sugar. You have to eat plain Greek yogurt without additional sugar. You can add fresh banana or any fruit to plain Greek yogurt to make it tasty. Plain Greek yogurts are much lower lactose. I think you can eat plain yogurt again in future, but your stomach is not ready for yogurt now. Lifeway Kefir has casein free and lactose free. You should read the label on Lifeway Kefir. Try to drink 1/4 cup of kefir and give your stomach time to get used to new probiotics. I would stick to 1/4 cup of kefir for a while because you've already been on Align.

You have to ditch canola oil. Try to use olive oil, coconut oil or ghee. Ghee is a clarified butter, but most milk protein and milk solid are removed in process, so your stomach can digest better. Many people with lactose and casein tolerance are able to consume ghee. Sorry, no more butter for you now. Ghee is sold cheaply at Indian stores. I doubt casein (milk protein) bothers you?

I seriously am thinking you should have gone on sugar free detox diet. Ask your GI specialist to refer to dietitian or nutritionist.

The sub isn't large enough to have a lot of carb that beyond to daily value, probably not greater than 20%. The test for celiac was negative. For candida, all of my biopsies from 2 colonoscopies are negative (all normal). My specialist decided to diagnose me with IBS after 2 years of GI problems.

I ate white breads for many years and I don't have problem, but wheat breads upset my tummy since I was young child, that was before I took PPI drugs. No, white potatoes don't upset my tummy at all, even much easier than corns.

My families were on Whole30 for one month and finished wit it, however my primary doctor put me on diabetes diet, even I don't have diabetes. That worked well with weight loss. I had to stop because my depression worsen so I have to eat candy bars or cookie to make me happy, so I will try to do again when I'm ready to do. My weight hasn't change since last gain was in 2015.

Most if not all green vegetables are always include in our family'a dinner. I'm IBS sufferer so I can't eat lettuce, it does make my tummy upset if I eat on normal basis. The saying about learn to like it, that's not going work because I hate to eat salad since all of my life, it made me to gagged. If you don't like food and can't swallow so don't eat at all. I rarely eat cabbage and not fan of this food.

Yes, I have lactose intolerant since I was 10 years. The dairy is very tiny fraction of my diet. The real butter with milk tastes better than clarified butter, however, I use margerine instead of butter for rice, rolls, corns and some vegetables. In most cases, people with lactose intolerant could tolerate up to 8 oz of milk so it is varies from person to person. My lactose intolerant used to be moderate until I got diagnosed with IBS.

For yogurt, I ate Activia vanilla before. I don't like yogurt but it is more tolerant to swallow than salad. Ok, I'm think about try Kefir, but I'm hesitate about diet change because it could affect my GI. I always sticking with foods whichever works with my digestive system, but IBS could make more complicated about whichever foods or brands affect. It is different from person to person.

I told you that I had elimination diet before, including sugar foods, but it does help with IBS but it didn't help with heartburn at all. Eventually, I reintroduced the sugar foods more slowly and stay in moderation, so my GI didn't became upset. I tends to eat a large portion of meat and normal portion of vegetables, also, sometime, grains.

My primary doctor said that insurance won't cover on dietitian or nutritionist unless you have diabetes, so GI issues aren't one of them. I'm uncertain about whichever PPI drugs or food poisoning cause IBS. I do ancknowledge that PPI drugs could exacerbate IBS, but I already requested the Stretta procedure so my specialist approved that and wait for insurance to give a final approval, but insurance companies usually deny at first time, even FDA approved this procedure. Most GI specialists recommended Stretta over Fundo and LINX for all patients with no to small hernia, also it could be repeat as well. However, Stretta probably not address the underlying problem, I'm going discuss with my specialist about those matters.

I just want to ensure that everything isn't went missed and my GI specialist is IBS sufferer as well, also he received top rating as best specialist but he knows that no one is 100% perfect. Right now, I'm stressed so I don't want to discuss more about my diet, so I'm going continue with normal diet until my mental condition improves. That's not good time for me to do right now. At least, I didn't suffer with heartburn very much, but I do have moderate IBS flare-up due to holidays. If foods don't cause GI issues so mental health or side effect from medicine could cause.

The insurance should have covered nutritionist for any reason like your severe case. That sucks. Good luck with your journey and hope it works out for you.

I think that I know why. The diabetes could cause fatal if you don't get under control, but for IBS, that's not fatal but your life will be suffering, painful and miserable until you are going fix it with diet change, exercise and other solution.

I used to stay in psych ward, trust me, you don't want to be there, the hospital foods were worst and poor medication management, so I was suffering, painful and miserable with IBS and GERD, and I asked a psychiatrist to discharge me immediately. I went outside and cried about how awful is psych ward. No surprise about all psych wards are full and I found those look like jail, more like Star 3 Jail. I requested them to have a special diet but hospital ignored me, so psychiatrist was nice to discharge me after overnight stay.

Honest with you, this election has caused a stress for me, that lead me to break a diet for right now, so will going back again, possibly after Christmas.

I tell people to avoid all PPI medicines and H2 blockers as possible, but I don't agree about make all PPI medicines goes OTC, so it should be always to obtain with Rx. PPI medicines are similar to tobacco products that make harder for you to quit this medicine. I noticed that doctors often over-prescribe the PPI medicines to patients who have a heartburn once a week, so Antacid and diet changes are best way to get under control.

I don't have the digestive problems as badly as you do Foxrac but I can empathize with you about some of them.

I love salads but I have to be very careful eating them. It's easy for me to get a coughing fit while eating a salad. I'm not sure that it's the lettuce causing it or if it's maybe something in the salad dressing that triggers coughing. My Parkinson's Disease also causes my esophagus muscles to not work correctly, so I have to be very conscious of my swallowing.

Yogurt causes me to feel a little queasy after eating it.

I suspect my PD meds are part of the problem. Like you, I also believe stress and emotions are a factor in digestive problems.

It doesn't seem right that your insurance covers a dietician/nutritionist only for diabetes.

You are lucky about got off the Nexium, but sadly, I have been on PPI drugs for 18 years. If I didn't take Prilosec when I was child so I will be in different path now.

I was born with diarrhea, heartburn and vomiting - all continued until 1990 and I was fed with soy formula after regular formula made me sick. (not sure if it is related).

I'm worrying about you most of time and I will be very saddened if you no longer able to eat on own. Have PD and all medical issues aren't fun at all. :(

I agree, insurance only paid if it is life-threatening diseases (diabetes is one of them), not malfunction disorder like IBS and GERD.

Fatal or not, the insurance still should covered it. It's all about profit. You should not suffer. My cousin nearly went into diabetic coma, but oh, he is very lucky. It was a wake up call for him and he had to make major changes to his diet.

I did visit psych ward to see a friend. It was awful. I've seen a patient vomited on the floor on the way visiting a friend. My friend who used to work at places like that and was attacked and had to quit because of the way the patients were treated cruelly.

I hope you will lower your stress level.

Good for you to tell avoid PPI medicines and H2 blockers. I always tell people to not take statins. They're worse and it did damage my mother's health. I am glad the medical reports recently have been saying statins can damage your health.

I read the medical journal summary a few years ago that dairy can increase the risk of Parkinson's disease. Something about pesticides in dairy. Have you heard of it?

Do you have hiatal hernia? It is very common in extremely obese people.

Wow, thanks for sharing!
I already stopped taking Prilosec this past summer.
I switched to diet foods. No more breads/pasta for me!!!
I have noticed that I don't have an upset stomach since then, which is good.

Pasta? No, it is not good for you, Sara!
You need to eat healthy foods (NO JUNK FOODS at all) and exercise regularly daily. Walking is the best. Again, wish you good luck with your surgery.

She means that she can't eat pasta until after surgery, but she will be on liquid only diet for weeks after surgery, I think so.
