and it's really important that i get answers ASAP.

this is directed to anyone who has some sort of a hearing disability..
I am a grade 11 student, and would appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes in order to answer the following questions. I was actually supposed to interview someone, but it didn't work out.
It's for a school project, and it's really important that I get answers soon.
Your help will be greatly appreciated :)

1. Do you feel that others around you treat you differently?

2. When did you lose your ability to hear properly?

3. What devices do you use in order to accommodate your hearing disability?

4. Over te years, do you think that society has changed its outlook/attitude towards those with disabilities?

5. Do you think more should be done in order to help you cope with your hearing disability?

6. Do you feel that young people today are educated enough about those with disabilities?

thank you!
~plz respond soon! :D

hi I can releate to Your veiws and yes society does have a very low respect for the deaf. I am a student in australia born and grow up in australia. I had many hardships. I have used fm systems notetakers and interpreters. A lot more edution needs to be done for those hearing folks and teachers. Society still has not learn how to deal with peolpe with disabilites. All I can say is that we need to be more proactive. dee

I ll do my best :)

I was born profoundly deaf along with my brother.

Yes I'm treated differently but I shrug it off and educate these who wants to learn. I'm teaching a few ASL these days so they can gain deeper understanding. Its wise to fight back with education, patience and thick skin, not anger.

However, it has improved greatly in past 5 yrs especially with youth. High Schools and colleges are offering ASL classes so that helps. Not to mention media exposing ASL more so there isn't much of stigma and shame.

I use my cochlear implant and interpreters to accomodate my communication needs.

1. yes because I have to read lips more often, and my family only uses Signed Exact English a very little to communicate with me.

2. I was born deaf and adopted by my folks.

3. Interpreters, CC on TV

4. Yes, there are TDDs, Relay, IM, e-mail, internet, and wireless mobiles.

5. Teach people ASL, read lips, and writing notes back and forth

6. No, I believe that ASL should be added as a requirement for high school graduation.

Hope that it helps;)

BTW, Welcome to AD!

Why we are helping you with your homework? Next time bring your Math homework over while you are at it. Isn't nice to get a free ride to get information about a cuture that all you care about is your grade? Most hearing people are only intereting about the deaf people is for thier careers or homework from school. Bye-bye.

I'll do my best.

Yes, all people with any hanicapp like myself get treated differently.
Even the deaf and hoh, and its not fair.
For example when a deaf person goes to apply for a job, alot of the time they get turned away.
But they can work and support themselfs just as good as anyone.
Go check out any of the other schools in your area.
See if they have any deaf or hoh students there, and even some local colleges.
Ask them you can interview them for your project.
Don't give up!
Good luck!!
