CNN affiliate: Parts of the airport were demolished for construction last week
(CNN) -- A massive fire shut down Nairobi's Kenyatta International Airport on Tuesday, Kenyan government and airport officials said.
The blaze has engulfed the entire international terminal, Ken Mijungu of CNN affiliate NTV reported.
No casualties were reported from the fire, which sent a huge plume of thick black smoke into the sky.
The airport is closed indefinitely, the Kenyan Interior Ministry tweeted. The ministry also said fire engines are running dangerously low on water.
No flights are departing or arriving. Flights are being diverted to other airports.
Mijungu said parts of the duty-free area had been demolished for construction last week, but the cause of the blaze was not known.
Nothing has been ruled out, Kenyan government spokesman Muthui Kariuki said.
Josef Ole Lenku, Kenya's Cabinet secretary for interior and security, told reporters that security is being boosted at the airport.
