Liar!

That is because you cannot fathom someone looking out for Mother Earth instead of being self-centered. We are out there.

Oh, sure. Eskimos, Native American Indians, Buddhists, Amish people, African Bushmen, and so on. Lots of down to Earth people, so to speak.

Don't hurt yourself patting your back.

Luxury to a minimum? Exactly what is your "luxury"? Perhaps its more like you cannot afford these "luxuries" that are helping you keep such things to a "minimum" but first we need to define what you mean by "luxury."

I am no means poor. And I worked hard for it. My family worked hard for it.

My retirement fund is enough to make my roommate cry. So luxury? Top-of-the-line brand new consoles, brand new computers, enough plastic cages for animals to make someone heave. At one point I was considering buying a BMW... even though I couldn't drive; I figured I would hire someone to drive me around or lend it to friends. :p All made from the almighty black gold.

:)

I just choose to go without. I used to have everything I could think of; didn't make me happy. Decided to toss that money toward the people instead. Makes me happier.

Most of my insecurity with money now is more because I am starting to see my relatives being unable to work at age 40 and not having any money nor being able to qualify for welfare.

And no, I am no Marxist or socialist. I don't give into "please, please, please" anymore. Not my responsibility to take care of them, nor do I think economic equality will ever exist.

Right. But us Euro-trash Americans are all about ourselves. Sorry dude, not the case with me. I walk, I take public transportation when I can. I drive a fuel efficient vehicle, and not because I could not afford a big gas guzzler. I made a decision to make at least a small attempt at conserving.

Your comments about oil being irreplaceable as an energy source, then brushing off comments about conserving, seemed to be contradictory. You think only the more primitive people of our planet can make a difference? Once the oil is gone, there had better be a viable option, or everyone will be an Eskimo, Bushman, etc. Maybe there are tens of trillions of barrels to be recovered, maybe not. We can drill, bulldoze, and cause untold eco-damage by keeping the pedal to the metal. Won't that be fun?

I leave the back patting for future generations. They might appreciate the fact some of us made an effort. Not pointing fingers, nor am I saying I am perfect. Every little bit helps. Same as littering; even a small amount of litter can look awful.

One final observation: if you are a Conservative, what exactly are you trying to conserve, besides your own personal wealth?

1. brushing your teeth with running water
2. taking 30 min shower instead of 15 min
3. leaving all lights on at home
4. having 20 pairs of shoes
5. driving Chevy Suburban for 1 person simply for self-image booster purpose
6. not reusing/recycling certain materials
7. not conserving material such as paper, food, etc.

Almost bought a house.

Only reason why I have a roomie is because I am a dickhead and thought she needed my help. :laugh2: Emphasis on the dickhead part.

Having a roommate help you to have Wii for just fun.

Oh wow...

My mind is in the gutter.

:laugh2:

Currently there is NO energy source that can replace oil completely in what it can do for us. I didn't say it was irreplaceable. You said that, not me. Eventually over time when technology improves will we find an acceptable energy source that will replace crude oil completely. This will not happen over night.

I don't consider, for example, Eskimos "primitive." They are quite conservative in how they survive and thrive in their own environment. Nothing primitive in knowing how to survive in -30 degree Fahrenheit during winter storms. Nothing primitive about surviving on what they've learned passed on down from generations worth of knowledge.

I think the Amish society is fascinating in how they work and grow their own food, and to live without any electricity. I love growing my own food and had a garden full of Roma tomatos, red chili peppers, green peppers, corn, cantalopes, carrots, grapes, blackberries, apricot, and nectarine back in New Mexico.

Gotta admit they're conservative in the modern technology they adopt.

Like cellphones are allowed in buggies, and phones in the barns... but not in the living quarters.

20 pairs? Must be a part of the Imelda Marcos shoe collection. All I have is my pair of work boots, cowboy boots, tennis shoes, and pair of sandals for summer swim fun.

:dunno: I would have to count mine. I know I am way over 20. I have 7 or 8 just for golf. 4 or 5 for softball

According to some people you're a wasteful scourge. But that'd be stupid of them to say when compared to Elton John's own shoe collection.
