I hate my ear doctor!!

I took a hearing test with my ear doctor. I scored 100-110 dB across the board. They told me that hearing aids will be waste of time. None will help my degree of hearing loss. I find this a lie. There has to be hearing aids that does work with my degree of hearing loss.

The doctor suggested CT scan to see if my cochlea has not dissolved before considering a CI. I personally think that doctor wants money for CI.

Few of you may remember that i went to Miracles Ear for a free hearing test last month and they did say that hearing aids would help with my hearing loss. Not that I would buy from Miracle Ears, but why 2 different answers?
 
Because they're two different people. That's why that saying exists "get a second opinion." If you don't like your ear doctor, find a different one. Audiologists tend to be more knowledgeable than ear doctors though about what hearing aids can do for you.
 
Yeah, I plan to get a 2nd opinion. The question that I was trying to imply is that there is actually hearing aids that does help with 100-110 dB of hearing loss.
 
Not always. It can depend on more than simply knowing what the loss is. Did you ask the person why they felt that hearing aids would not help? Getting a detailed explanation might help get at the reasons for that opinion.

No idea, I'm in the 90-110 range and benefit from hearing aids but again, like Glenn said, there could be variables that your ear doctor needs to explain to you. You have an audiologist?
 
100-110 db? There are definitely HAs out there that should work. I have a 115 db loss myself and hear very well with HAs.

Please find another audi. (Are you seeing an ear doctor or an audi?)

Edit: I said "should" because I don't know all of your mitigating circumstances. Only that there are HAs that cover your db loss range.
 
DItto with alleycat Mines between 95 to 110 db. I still can hear my hearing aids
 
My left ear loss is 110 db, i use phonak naida v UP I just about to hear through it, I don't have any extra features as I have asked the audi to put all the power in the low freq range some in Mid freq/high (for transpostiton), it is at it's maxium. I don't hear alot with it but it works well with my CI. They did say thats the only HA on the market thats powerful enough for my loss BUT thats in UK and NHS is ALWAYS behind the latest technology. There GOT to be one out there, MAKE them let you try them... rather than them saying that it won't work before you even try them.
 
Oticon Sumo DM is a very strong one(i have that one and its ok, only reason I use it is to get by and to drown out the tinnitus) , there will be competition for the similar types from Phonak, Widex, etc as Caroline said audiologist tend to know more because they have knowledge of what aids there are out there apart from implants. and yes ENT doctors tend to be quite arrogant (dont like mine either but i cant be picky as in a city of 100,000 where the hospital access is fairly limited also.
 
what kind of ear doctor are you seeing? If you have good health coverage schedule yourself an appointment with a good otolaryngologist with a sub-specialty in the type of hearing loss you have. You made need to go 20 miles south to chicago in order to do this but it's so worth it.
 
I went to one in Skokie, I'LL hospital. Probably not the best place to go. What was that place 20 miles South of Chicago?
 
I'm sorry, I meant that your hometown of Evanston, IL is approx 20 miles north of chicago and that you may need to go to a large city such as chicago in order to find the right type of specialist for your individual needs.
 
Miracle Ears got busted for false advertising ! They had an ad on TV saying their hearing aids can help anyone with a hearing lost and this not true! It sound like Miracle Ears is trying to get away lying again!! Stay from Miracle Ears !
 
Being in the Profound loss category now-how long till one arrive at "deafness" which is the last category?
No easy answer to say the least. How much time do you have --till bilateral "deafness"? From my experience-deaf in Right-Feb/92 then deaf in Left-Dec/06.

Not everyone in the profound (or even any category of) loss will progress to total deafness. It has to be a progressive, and continuing, type of loss to begin with. I went from 85 (severe) to 115 (profound) in the first 20 years of my life. It is now 20 years after, it still is at 115, no change.
 
try getting a 2nd opinion and there's hearing aids out there that can deal with your loss
try the Naida or the one Lissa has which is the Oticon Chilli (I have the Chilli/Safari in kid verison)
 
sorry hear hope be you! hard to try quality find doctor best ENT I told my doctor I complaint to ENT arrogant, I Honest I tell uncomfortable old history ENT not like me, I told plz to him, Doctor respect to me, I am comfortable high rate point on friendly and ENT wisdom suppose tell to people observed decision to person! I know difficult!

I second Caroline and some of the other posters, get a "2nd opinion". And from an audiologist rather than an ear doctor. And you'll still probably get more benefit wearing an HA than not wearing it. IMHO.
