Hi all ..

37 year old ... bilateral loss .. Been loosing my hearing slowly over the last 20 years or so .. My grandmother was deaf. So was my farther

And now me ..

I am finally starting to look into aids .. but the one place I went to ( some ad in the paper from some hearing ad shop ) the audioligest was very nice .. and recomended I go see real medical specialists and be prepared for the words cochlear and implant. She said something that I was up at 80db @4k and 90 @8k .. and that due to the progression .... blah ..

Reading lips has come naturally to me , and I can speak normally. I would say that in a conversation I get about 20% of my information from voice. The rest I pick up from lips / body language / context. But it is becoming frustrating when there is one word in the sentence that I cant get .. and that's the key to the whole conversation.

Well anyway .. Before I go off on a rant of frustration .. I just figured I would say hello

Hello Chris and welcome. I know the feeling as I've been there. received my CI a couple of months ago and wow! it is starting to make a BIG difference in comprehension. I'm well over twice your age and would say if you have the opportunity, really look into the CI. You have a lot of life ahead of you and may as well start taking advantage of advancements in science/medicine. There is a very good article on this site by "RonJaxon" that you should read if you can find it. I'm sorry to say I don't remember the thread but it is there and I think a sticky. Again welcome and good luck

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. Hope you are using sign language like ASL which is much better way to communicate with the deaf people. I hope you find good things on the forum. Have fun and enjoy reading and posting here. See you around here.
