Hearing person interested in deaf culture + ASL

Hello! My name is Gwendolyn, I'm a 18 year old hearing person from Kansas City who was recently diagnosed with high-functioning autism. I have a history of emotional trauma and issues with mental illness, and I want to learn ASL as a way to help kids who are nonverbal due to trauma, or work with nonverbal autistic children. I also want to be a foster parent, and you never know what background the children in your care come from. Other than that, I have a fascination with d/Deaf culture and think learning sign language is important for anyone and everyone should know at least a little bit.
