Gulf Coast man creates hearing device

A Gulf Coast man has created a device to aid hearing impaired children and adults.

Creator Robert Raab of Gautier (Go-shay), Mississippi, said the Ear-Mounted Alarm and Signaling Device is a two-piece system that can help alert the hearing impaired person by using an alarm or vibration.

A small remote control sends the wireless signal to the device, which Raab says can also house a hearing aid.

Raab said the device could be used by parents to alert children at the playground that it is time to go inside.

The remote also includes a built-in clock that can serve as an alarm clock for an adult.

Raab said he came up with the idea for the project after seeing a "deaf child" sign along the street.

His wife, Doris, decided to apply for a patent and have a prototype made. Now Raab is looking for a manufacturer.
