Feeling vibrations in left side of cochlear implant??

Hi all, Sorry I've not been on Alldeaf for awhile. I'm in my 2nd semester of my first year of college. And things have been keeping me busy, also I'm in my 7 month relationship with my boyfriend.

Anyways, For the past few weeks, I've been feeling vibrations on the left side of my neck whenever I put my Cochlear Implant on and my settings are set on low. Most of my friends thought it was because I'm sensitive to loud noises. But my settings are on low so I really shouldn't be that sensitive to loud noises. Also, I've been exposed to loud noises due to being in Marching band and indoor Drumline for the past 4 years in high school. I feel vibrations sometimes in my eye. I thought this would go away but it hasn't. After my implant has been on my head for a few minutes, the vibration goes away until i take it off and put it back on then I feel it again.

Do any of you CI'ers experience this? It's starting to concern me and making me wonder If i need to tell my parents that it may need to be replaced. I had this internal implant since I was 8 and I believe it was a Nucleus 24 internal implant.

You should see audiologist immediately.

It sounds like electrical signal/impulse reaction.

When you got your first CI, the audiologist (or CI specialist) is supposed to make experiments with you every few months on the sensitivity level. The purpose of this is to make a maximal satisfaction for your level without causing any potential problems.

My internal processor is about 12 years old, I had this internal implant since i was 8 and I try to avoid wearing my CI because of this situation and its been making my parents annoyed. But does this also mean my CI may need to be replaced?

Fortunately, nope. It only needs to be reprogrammed, which can easily be done and connected to computer with a special wire used by audiologist.

Well... not sure. the newer products have that technology, but dunno about the one from 12 years ago.

My first audi that used to handle all of my CI appointments told me that if i feel some vibrations in my eye, it would mean theres something wrong with the internal implant. I don't know if that is true or not but I've been feeling a little bit of that, very faintly though. I used to go to children's hospital for all of my CI's appointments but i'm over 18 now and not going to children hospital anymore. So I dont really remember if she really said that or not.
 
Maybe you can email your old audiologist at the children's hospital and let her know what's going on, and see if you can see her about it, or if she can refer you to another audiologist.
 
it sounds like it hits your nerves that spreads out to your sensitive area. My best recommend is to see your audiologist to make sure it s all good. glad to know you are doing well :)
 
You need to contact your audi like everyone else here has said. With a device like that you should be getting it checked at least annually. Also the audi can do a computer check to see if it has failed.
 
Ok, so here's the update.

I went to my audiologist yesterday, (we got an appointment with her really fast!) about 4PM. We tried all different kind of stuff, we tried figuring out which electrodes were bothering me the most in my neck and in my eye from the vibrations. and then tried to do something with electricity in the electrodes, still feel the vibrations. My audiologist then thought maybe it was the connection causing the problem with my internal implant from my new upgrade processor, we tried my backup and It was a lot better but I can still feel vibrations in my eye and neck.So i'm staying with my backup N5 processor but my programs are set on really really low so the noises won't make my eye twitch or feel vibrations in my neck. right Now i can feel little vibration in my neck. So then after my dad and I got home from my audiologist's place, we tried my old processor, the freedom, to see if it was okay with just the freedom with my internal implant with the connection. It was worse, I felt the vibrations in my eye and my neck again and with all the vibrations i was getting a headache.Then my dad called my audi and said it sounds like my 12 year old internal CI migrated. and I am going to an appointment with my CI surgeon next tuesday at 2:40 to see his medical perspective on this situation. I'm extremely nervous. When i was heading home from school this morning, my eye was twitching. and couldn't stop twitching! Hoping I can still avoid surgery.
 
hope your audie and surgeon can figure out what's going on and get it all taken cared of. All that twitching surely cannot be fun to deal with.
 
Sorry to read about all this. I hope your next appointment goes really well and the twitching and all gets resolved.
 
I had that. you have an electrode(s) that is turned up too far.. or it may need to be turned of completely..
 
If ya get stuck have ya audi contact the research audiologist at Cochlear America's in Denver... they will be the best folks to figure out what is going on....

I had something simliar happened with my left aid clicking and my LED status acting up then it returned to the normal state so that was pretty strange! LOL
 
Ok, another update, I went to see my CI surgeon yesterday (on the 26th) at like 2:40, and said he wants me to get a cat scan so they can see what is going on. I'm getting a cat scan on march 5th at 11AM. Then in 2 weeks I'm going in for a follow up with him to see what the hell is going on (pardon my language) and see what we need to do. Hopefully the implant has not moved or anything. Praying to god that i will not need surgery to get a replacement.

Hearing aids are entirely, completely different to cochlear implant!!!!
