Don't Steal From A Corpse Never Know Whatcha Gonna Get

I find that local news tend to focus more on what's going on in their city, national news get maybe a soundbite if it's not earth shattering type. There's only maybe 22 minutes (the rest being commercials) to cram everything in there- news, sports and weather- and sometimes a "feel good" segment. That's a lot of stuff!

That's always been the way since the 70s at least...seems like the concept of the "sound bite" or mini story has spread to online from what I'm seeing. They also apparently either don't teach proper writing in journalism majors anymore or are hiring inexperienced people :P. Sad to see newspapers declining- We still get the hard copy newspapers here and I do read them but the print is smaller than it used to be (whether it's my vision or them changing the font size to fit even more stuff in there I don't know).
