Hello friend, RP1 from SSC (Skyscrapercity Forum) and live in Chicago.

I just talked to him about stuff and he don't believe what I said that I have own car and driver license. His friend told him that deaf people can't drive and can't own driver license. I was laughed what he said. Please help him to understand about deaf culture. I have admit that he's looks weird and seems nice at most time, he's just talk like whatever.

I'm getting tired of hearing people that said deaf people can't drive, can't become pro sports, can't learn and many stuff. That's must be enough and enough.

I am deaf since birth and have a driver license for over 30 yrs!

One time, a person told me that I should't be driving due my left eye blind and yet I still drive with my best right eye! Go figure! I always keep look out on both saide whenever I stopped at Stop Sign, always!

Man, it amazes me how some people are extremely ignorant about deaf people. I m understanding when someone is ignorant about the little things, but driving?? hahaha.

A similar thing happened to me last summer. I had this job at a private school in Tulsa as a landscaper/custodian. One day, one of the lower level guys had me to drive one of the big, expensive Kubota mowers for the first time. He didnt think that it was a big deal, so he didnt notify my boss. Well, when my boss saw me mowing, he ordered me to stop and get off. His reason: I cant hear the motor if something goes wrong or the blades hitting something. He was afraid that I would screw up the $15,000 mower. I was furious. This was after he allowed guys as young as 16-17 to drive the mower (they were more reckless with the mower than I was). I told him, "I have been driving a car since I was 16 with no problems!" Also, I told him that I had driven fourwheelers, jet skis, boats, motorcycles, etc with no problems! I had to educate him about deafness (ie- we can feel things, deaf people are one of the safest out there, we can see, etc). After a bit of educating, he decided to allow me to drive the mowers for the rest of the summer.

In his defense, he was a really good guy. He was just ignorant due to limited contact with deaf people in the past. He just needed to be educated.

This is actually because ATMs are not made differently depending on where they are to be placed. A walk-up ATM is the same as a drive-up ATM, so they all have the same functions on them.
