Does ASL have a prestigious dialect; a dialect that is considered “proper” or indicative of the upper class. In contrast, are there dialects of the language that are considered “lower class” or “improper” by the people? We know that many hearing individuals hold beliefs about prestigious and non-prestigious dialects in English, but I've never heard of this being the case with ASL. Please feel free share your thoughts and own beliefs about this. Thank you in advance!
