Document control system, how effective?

Hi! I wonder how effective is it to have a document control in a company? I have been having headaches every time I lose a single paper on my desk. I suggested this system and so my boss instructed me to research and find a reliable one. Anybody who could help me? Thanks!

Like paperless office ?
 
Yep, paperless. I am sure you need IT to secure your paperless documents to make sure it won't fall into the wrong hands. Maybe IT guys may know one thing.
 
Since I used to be a copier technician, I would suggest calling local copier places and find out what they have to offer. I'm sure they would give you few ideas and proposal to install and maintain the copiers and documents management for you.
 
If I'm not mistaken, you are looking for a DMS or a document management software. By the way, you must be aware about its benefits, key features and its cost before you select a suitable one for your business needs. You could read also about a guide to document management before you decide.
