I do not have VP at work, and even at home I prefer to use relay through website. I avoid making customer calls at work because I have been burned too many times with operator's refusal to admit their mistake or being lazy with my personal calls. Here is an example of the latter:

You have reached Almyra's extension. Please email her at <work email address> or call the other specialists: <names & extension numbers given>. Lisa does not take calls because she is deaf. Thank you for your understanding.

This is the message I gave internet relay operator to record on my voicemail as an extended absence greeting to block incoming callers from leaving messages on my voicemail.

I asked a co-worker to call my VM to verify greeting was recorded. She reported back that this is the message that was recorded:

please leave a message or send email to <email address given>

Can you believe it?! The operator delibrately butchered my message and defeated the purpose of keeping callers from leaving messages! My co-worker kindly offered to record my message.

I thought internet relay could be trusted to use my words exactly as worded. I wish I had recorded the operator's ID number so I could report this person. Phbt.

Do you have blind trust when it comes to interpreting or relay calls?

Seeing this, I think I got to admit, yeah. Since there's no other way to make call other than using relay system. :/

Now I am a bit embarrassed and wondering how many people have misunderstood or got confused with what I was trying to say on the phone. Darn...

With interpreter it's easier to catch mistakes they make, and to pick the best interpreter you can find. You usually know which interpreter is a good one, but it's harder with opr because you can't see it and have to ask the person after the phone call about this issue.

Oh, I can't count the # of times that I left a message for someone, and then they tell me they never got the message. I'm talking about family, friends, etc. -- people who would have no reason to lie to me. So it always makes me wonder if when the OPR is saying "leaving message", if they really are. I have been known to call these same people back a few minutes later, with ANOTHER relay operator, and leave the same message again just in case the 1st one wasn't left.

my sister is a relay operator and she says their calls get monitored for quality at random so it keeps them on their toes to stay to procedure and if something like that happens they get in big trouble! i trust my sisters company so i only use them.

They must follow the rules to obey the caller to do whatever they want, relay officers job to relay the excat words what they want to relay. It is not right for them to, shorten the words or whatnot. this officer needs to improvise its performance or get rid of it, if their performance report is not good as they would expect. Slack officers, I'll have to say. Sorry.
