The National Deaf Poker Tour held it's inaugural tournament last weeked at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. The $100 buy-in event drew 228 hearing impaired players to the felt, and when the final card was dealt John Merriman of Cleveland was the last man standing, taking home the $6,330 winner's prize. To help the players and dealers communicate with each other, tables had writing materials available, and sign language interpreters were also on hand to assist the action.
The Tour has three events planned for this year, with the next tournament being held at Binion's in downtown Las Vegas on July 22, just days before the World Series of Poker Main Event.
