Interesting.....but I'm waiting to see what will happen when 1 of our own AD members (Angel) gets activated. Her journey has been a long one and more to come....

I can understand why shes happy. Thats good for her since she have not been involved with ASL or Deaf community.

Yeah... It seems it does work for her.

But, I wonder, how long ASL and Deaf culture will die out? Sorry, I still believe ASL (even sign languages) and Deaf community will die out because everyone is so clings to spoken languages as it is a superior one, and deafness will be cured in future. =/

I know. Guess we are the last GOOD generation people that they will never know how ASL or Deaf culture are like.

did you know that when hearing aids became popular deaf people were against them? There were deafies who thought that the CI would kill deaf culture............that is b/c a HA or CI doesn't make a dhh kid hearing.......

i saw that story on cnn. Aww i am glad to see that girl is happy to have hearing back. That what the most important thing is to see that girl being happy to have her hearing back.

geez i hate to say this but come on dont even bother to mention that ci/ha will kill the deaf culture that easy....Reason is that some of you have FORGOT that some deaf/hh person may have not been happy with the life they are going through. Some times ci/ha can solve the problem but not ALWAYS even though there are some other solutions that could help them. And not only that, THERE IS at least more than million people who are deaf/hh out there. You can have your own deaf culture for all i care and it is your freedom of choice to choose. It is same as choose any religion you want but dont need to make such a discriminating comment against those people who make decisions to choose ci/ha.

If CI actually works, then it's ok for anyone who wants to try it. I think it's great but it's not invisible yet, even though it's better than nothing. Maybe someday in the future no one will know that someone wears a CI which would become very small in size like a pea. There are always improvements in any technology. As for me, it's too late because I am old. In other words, it's a right time for her and other young deaf people.

What the hell? I don't say you can't have CI or HA.

I was wondered how it goes on without ASL, sign languages, and Deaf community. I am pretty sure sign languages, including ASL, and Deaf Culture will die much later. But, it is in near future.

So, never mind what I thought because it does not concern you that much, anyway.

I don't think all deaf children will have CI so ASL will live on. You worry too much. Please remember that CI works for some, not everyone.

While its good to see she is happy, those sort of videos go hand in hand with the "give your child a CI and they will be normal/fixed/cured" brainwashing thats going on

It will hopefully die off in the future if people from that culture keep on being soo judgemental and discrimincating as well hateful towards these who don't support their culture and put ASL /deafies first.
Cmon! This is riduclous. Think harder in reality IT WILL NEVER DIE as theres people that cannot benefit from either CI or HA technology. Stop with these posts all that makes me just want to GTFO cause I'm just ashamed for these that are so ignorant like that, just like last time when I first joined in '10 all that is still alive and kicking I see and sense posts from people immersed in ASL and deafie culture...Just really sad to see.

In our state, the deaf school don't have any students with CI or just very little like only 2-3 students so rest of them are heavily ASL users.

I remember about our state legislative made cut on Medicaid funding so nobody on Medicaid could get CI at all and I asked ENT specialist if Medicaid will cover CI so he said no at all. The private insurance will cover but have to pay huge out of pocket and will have a lot of medical debts. For my insurance, it will cover 60% of cost so have to pay rest of them at 40%.

The insurance companies are getting tighten up and more expensive now. :(

I don't think ASL will die in anytime.

You are THE idiot talking about ASL being obsolete in the future.

Oh, lol.

No. You twisted my posts by implying something that is not I said. PLEASE show me where did I say you can't have CI or HA, now.

Well, we shall wait and see... I should remind you something, the cure for deafness is coming up in near future.
