Curious: what do our deaf members do for a living?

<--Professional Bra Inspector...

Really actually I'm the Merchandise Support Auditor at a warehouse. My job is pretty much complicated:

1) Open at LEAST 5 cartons of an incoming shipment to check if UPC's, SKU's, colors and styles matches the Purchase Orders

2) If the order's pretty much small, I just scan them in and send 'em on to Shipping Dept. Large Orders? I let a 3-man team take over and do my dirty work :)

3) If a team finds something wrong with it....I'm the one who gets to do the paperwork and a nice flowery report to my boss who in turn kicks it up to the buyers. What the buyer wants to do with fucked-up orders aint my problem..The teams or me find em and I just report em.

4) If I got a lot of closed stores, I gotta transfer a lot of cartons intended for the closed stores over to the other stores.

5) I relay orders from my boss to the Receiving Manager and tell him what his teams can do about the orders I get from my boss.

6) I man the reject line and take care of the stray cartons.

7) I just have fun :)

Here attached is a pic of my at-work toys :)

Too Many Jobs!!

Since I started working at the young tender age of 14 in 1998, I've had the following jobs/positions:
- New Life Farms (Turkeys) - Farm worker
- Primera Foods (Egg processing) - Line worker (ugh)
- Public and School Library - librarian assistant
- Nelson's Concessions (chocolates) - Line worker (yum)
- Elementary School - teacher assistant & later paraprofessional/interpreter for a deaf child (go figure)
- Roller Rink - supervisor/concession sales
- University of Minnesota - Tutor (Math and Sciences - including classes I never took!)
- Concordia Language Villages - Assistant cook
- Allegheny Riding Camp - Counselor/riding assistant
- Crystal Morgan Farms - Stable Assistant/Manager (when the regular staff are at shows)
- Babysitter
- Horse trainer
- And many other small temporary jobs "Jack of all trades" so to speak.
- College Student - currently have a B.S. in Business/equine science and now going for a A.S in Computer networking.

That's it so far, I've had up to 3 jobs at a time while going to high school but never more than 30 hours a week since I had already taken all the classes I could by my senior year that I had the entire afternoon off with no classes. That sucked!

My goal though since I am currently unable to join the military is to finish my A.S. in computer networking and then hopefully find a job as a network specialist/manager. Brain fart now..

I also write personal poems.

I am currently a student pilots with 18 hours logged.

Dont they have clear masks? I know many RNs who happen to be deaf or hard of hearing. Dont let your university stop you! I wish I went on to be a RN when I was in college but opted for health education instead as thought I wouldnt see equal rights in my days to come. Dont settle.

Yes, they do have clear masks, and it is an accommodation that can easily be made to acommodate a deaf/hoh nurse.

Are you poems published? Any chance I could check them out?

Linux writes beautifully and very sensually! I love reading his steamy poems. You should be able to find some of them here on AD- it has gotten many of us quite steamed up! :giggle:
