You can try looking for a deaf school near your area that may offer classes that are less expensive or more accessible than college classes. There are also some good apps out there with vocabulary and such, but I haven’t found any that go into the details of how the grammar works. I think it’s...
Awesome, thanks. I always see in HA advertisements that certain ones with the high end technology will adapt to different listening situations to help with speech clarity and such in noisy environments. I’ve always been skeptical of that claim, but my friend with Phonaks says it’s somewhat true...
Hey, hope you don’t mind explaining; what does AB stand for? I don’t know if that’s an allDeaf term or something used in Deaf culture that I’m just not familiar with yet.
My audiologist is a really good fit for me; much MUCH better than the one I went to before her. The unfortunate side to going through this charity for my HAs, though, is that they only offer vouchers for Phonak hearing aids. At least I won’t be getting some off-the-wall brand, lol. Thanks for...
Those of you who've had Phonak brand hearing aids: are they good quality? I'm getting my hearing aids through a local charity, so I'm not limited to just Phonak brand because that's what's available, and a friend of mine uses Phonak and she likes her HAs. When I went to look for reviews...
Hi Sue! Same thing is happening to me, and while I was looking for places to learn ASL near me I found a deaf school that offered ASL classes for the summer for just $25 for a two month course. You might look and see if there's anything like that in your area. Also, my community college...
The only experience I have with a sudden shift in my hearing happened over the course of about a year, where I dropped about 20-30 dB in that time. My hearing loss is sensorineural, so my auditory nerve isn’t picking up sounds like it’s supposed to. Our situations are a bit different, but I...
Thanks guys! I had checked FB a while back but I didn’t really come up with anything, but it’s been a while so I’ll check again. I signed up for an ASL class in the fall semester, and the instructor is deaf, so I was planning on asking her for some advice on how to get involved, too.
I’ve seen KSD pop up on the local news channel for school closings during severe weather before. I’ll reach out to them, but I won’t be able to attend since I’m 24.
I did a quick search for threads about this but nothing came up. Does anyone have any advice for me on how to respectfully get involved with the Deaf community? I suppose a better starting question is do I even have the right to want to get involved with the Deaf community since I’m only hard of...
I like drums, but more so because I can feel the vibrations rather than hear them. My hearing loss is in the lower frequencies, so drums are hard to hear but I love the feeling in my chest. My bf is a drummer, so it’s great when he practices.
