    Freaked out about hearing

If you just got them 2 days ago, I would recommend going back to your audiologist in a week or so and make some small adjustments based on your feedback. If certain things are giving you headaches or wind sound is really bothering you, they can make some adjustments. Then wear them every day...

    New Med-El CI

I agree. And that's where getting the FDA approval like this will help continue to improve coverage and make it easier to get. And for anybody else out there reading this who may be interested in getting one, there is a facebook group dedicated to SSD CI users that is full of people who have...

    New Med-El CI

Thankfully they are starting to provide coverage more and more in recent years. At least in my case, I had no issues last year getting my insurance to cover my CI for SSD and it wasn't even this FDA approved Med-El brand.

I regret ever using the word broken, as it has caused so much unnecessary anger and misunderstanding that I never intended. You can use whatever phrase is best. But one thing a professional doctor or audiologist would NOT say is "your ears are working fine" which is the notion I was originally...

Very well said. I will be leaving as well and will find someplace more open-minded and inclusive of others. -Mike

No, my post was a direct response to YOU, not the entire Deaf community. There you go again lying about something I said, and then arguing with me about it. It's absurd. That makes sense to me and I probably should have just said "non-functioning ears" instead of "broken" in the first place...

I've restated my point so many times it doesn't even matter. You are so hell bent on being offended by everything I have to say, when it's the last thing I was trying to do. It seems you are projecting your own issues and insecurities onto me and then arguing and calling me names for it. You...

You do NOT have to change the way you think, I am NOT asking you to. I am simply trying to explain how a hearing person may think. I am not asking you to CHANGE; I am asking you to UNDERSTAND a different perspective. And it's the perspective that many hearing people will have. It doesn't...

Wow. Finger pointing? Attacking you? Saying you can't function in the hearing world? I don't even know what to say to any of that. You're putting words in my mouth and I feel like you're missing the entire point of what I was trying to explain. You can be mad at me all you want; I'm just...

Quite the opposite. I was simply trying to explain how those kinds of comments get intrepreted by a hearing person. You seem very frustrated, and I guess I was just trying to offer some perspective from the other side. It's not about telling you that you are broken - I don't know how many...

I have no issue acknowledging the fact that I have crappy ass ears. They don't work like they should and saying so doesn't make me feel any less-than. But that doesn't mean I "run around calling some part of my body broken." It's simply not at all a part of my identity, which is probably the...

Again, NOBODY is talking about calling the person broken. NOBODY. Not once has anybody said that. But your ears, well, your ears ARE. -Mike

To be clear, we're talking about the ear, not the person. And the ear is a very complex part of the body with an entire anatomy of parts each with a very specific function all designed to make it so a person can hear sounds around them. If you can't hear any sounds around you, the ear is...

It's surprising to me when someone who is deaf cannot acknowledge there is something wrong with their ears. I can't understand it, I'm sorry. As for our Creator, you lose me a bit on that argument because I can google image search for "severe birth defects" and have a whole lot of trouble...
