How Convince Mother To Learn ASL?

I've read quite a bit about behavior change. You may want to try another approach. Start showing your mom that ASL is common. People tend to be more likely to adopt a behavior change if they think its popular/hip. Invite her to functions where everyone only uses ASL ( but don't tell her, just...

    Meat eater VS vegetarian/vegan

The American government found it necessary to fortify cow's milk with vitamin D and salt with iodine because average citizens (who ate nonvegan diets) were not obtaining enough of those nutrients on their own. In fact, the average omni is more likely to be nutrient-deficient than the average...

    Deaf adopting

I'm hearing and I'm adopting a hearing child, so I'm not sure if my advice will be useful.. but I know that if you adopt through the state fostercare program that they cannot discriminate against you purely on the basis of your deafness. (They can't discriminate on the basis of race or religion...

    Meat eater VS vegetarian/vegan

I vote for vegetarian/vegan. It's better for animals, better for the planet, and better for human health. You can get a free Vegetarian Starter Pack if you're interested in trying. It has recipes, nutrition and health information, product tips, and a lot more. Sometimes they'll give you...

Should Your Child Be Spanked at School?

Wirelessly posted Whenever the issue of spanking comes up anywhere, there are always people who say that they were spanked and turned out just fine. Well, that's true that the majority of people will grow up to be normal. But the evidence says that spanking increases the chance that the...

maybe weird question about sign language

Wirelessly posted I think most hearing parents would not teach sign but a small percentage would. Obviously, it would make sense to teach sign language so it would work in fiction.

    asl songs

This is how I feel. Songs were part of what got me interested in learning ASL. If I had just dived straight into a "voices off" environment without music I don't think I would have learned enough vocab to get a sense that I even liked the language.

Teen from Occupy Oakland Kills Parents

Wirelessly posted That's really sad. The article said the teen was adopted from fostercare. I wonder if he had severe early trauma. It also said he was obsessed with violent video games. That could have played a role. Or... Who knows, it's possible the parents were abusive and no one knew. Or...

    plastic surgery and relationship

Wirelessly posted Makes sense to share some of your important medical history with someone before you marry them but I think it's silly to think that if you marry an attractive person then you'll automatically have attractive children. You can never tell exactly which genes a kid will get or...

ASL Students: Be honest, your reason???

I posted some of my reasons in my introduction thread (I did baby signs with my son and enjoyed it). I like how ASL forces me to be more expressive. But mostly I just enjoy talking with my hands and learning new things.
