A few weeks ago, I had a total hip replacement. Before, I was in great pain just standing or sitting, even though on pain-killers, After, no pin at all, and each day, my new hip works better and better. Before, I needed a walker. Now, I get around with a cane. Next, I'm going to have a knee...

The best part about hearing spouses who don't bother to learn sign language for you ...

If I smile while signing swear words at her, she thinks I'm saying nice things. :D:boink:

What do you do for living?

I'm retired; however, I write mystery novels. My first novel entitled Deaf Takes a Holiday sold a few copies a month for the first year. In the meantime, I'm working on the sequel, 'Til Deaf Us Do Part.

    Stupid comments

Yep, I get this question a lot, too, like lip-reading is supposed to be the easiest thing in the world. They get these ideas from stupid movies. In real life--at least for me--the speaker has to articulate well, not too fast nor too slow, be fairly close, and K.I.S.S. (Keep It Short, Stupid). :D

    Stupid comments

Ha ha ha. I must not "look" deaf, either, because my favorite is to be tapped hard on the shoulder, and even before I finish turning, some irate person is demanding, "Are you deaf?" Obviously, he or she has been talking to me behind my back. When I say and sign "Yes. Why?" I get the funniest...

    *sigh*...female and male interpretors...

I love your spouse defense.:gpost: I trust my wife/partner/best friend implicitly. No one could work harder for us. When I get phone calls on my text-only cellphone, I hand it to her to find out if it's a client or prospective client trying to get hold of Chase Editing. She's my also my...

    *sigh*...female and male interpretors...

If this aspect of the discussion has been covered, I apologize for wasting time. However, the following is quite important to me (:ty:, Reba, for the full article): "The U.S. Department of Justice expects that the health care provider will consult with the person and consider carefully his or...

    How deaf is she?

I was hard-of-hearing for two decades but could play the guitar and sing. However, when I became totally deaf in 2001, friends could tune my guitar, but I could never sing in sinc with it...

What are you doing right now? Part II

Hi, fellow deafies and other friends. I was gone so long that I had look up my password and sign in again. However, I was thinking of you all. I've been busier than a hive o' bees: Even though I'll be 76 next month and have been "retired," my mystery novel, Deaf Takes a Holiday has been doing...

Being hard of hearing is hard

High school is hard enough without being hard-of-hearing. I know 'cause I was in high school ten years! (Four as a teen and six as a teacher of teens :D) Its sounds like you're doing all the right things to meet your challenges. :welcome:.

    Name Signs

Thanks for the giggle--I needed it. By the way, Beowulf, here's my photo to show I'm laughing with you, not at you.
