    Today I got my c.l.

I was given a choice by the surgeon - I went with the company that's been around the longest and have more specialists. I think I would have been just as happy with the A/B as I am with Cochlear, so I doubt it'd made much difference either way.

    Today I got my c.l.

I'm at 14 days post-activation with the Nucleus 7 by Cochlear. Very pleased with it so far - can't be happier, really. I can hear the birds again after 20 years. One-on-one speech rocks, and I'm picking up about 50% without visual cues (15% right out of the box on the first day.) Music...

    Today I got my c.l.

That's great - I'm getting an implant on Feb 8th. Going with the Cochlear N7 in the right ear. Please keep us informed on how you do, and I'll do the same.

Hello Everyone - From Atlanta (Lawrenceville) GA

May I ask why your wife refuses to wear her CI? I had myself checked out at Emory back in 2005 for one, the surgeon declined me, as he said I was doing well enough with my BTEs, but he did say I'd need one at some point in the future. I'm a bit scared to get one at this point anyhow, at least...

Thanks, I'll check that out. I have a friend who's willing to take a class or 2 with me, so perhaps I can get going on that soon. :)

    Oralism and learning ASL

A little about me: I'm 47 years old, and am currently about 90% deaf in one ear, 95% in the other, up from about 70% loss in both ears when I was a child. Since I had enough residual hearing as a child, I was put on the "oralist" track, with a specialized education track in elementary school...

Hello, I'd like to introduce myself to this forum, which I've known about for a while but haven't bothered to join until recently...lol. I live in Atlanta, GA, although I was born and raised in North Carolina, and lived in Florida for a number of years, back when I had a job as an urban...

What is supposed to be so great about digital hearing aids?

I'm in the same boat as you, as I've had a difficult time adjusting to digital aids. In order for me to understand speech, I need to "hear it all" - not to have stuff filtered out - especially the high-pitched sounds. The way I have my aids now, I have my left aid on zero compression, since...

Hello Everyone - From Atlanta (Lawrenceville) GA

Hello, I am from the Atlanta area as well and have just joined this forum. I'm in the Tucker area of Atlanta and have lived here for about ten years. I use 2 BTEs and rely on lip reading as well to get by - gets more difficult as I get older. I've yet to learn ASL but I plan on doing so in...
