The neglect of concerned authority combined with the poor management has posed threats to the existence and operation of a local school for the deaf children.

The school built 22 years ago with the assistance of South Asia Partnership Nepal in the land provided by Rajbiraj Municipality at Sakhada Road is in a dilapidated condition. But nobody is bothered about the condition of the school.

The building with nine classrooms, three hostel rooms, two-room kitchen, store and toilet is cracked in several places and is need of repair immediately.

With accumulation of waste over the years, only one out of six toilets is in operation. The hose has been damaged and sewage exposed in the front part of the building that gives off odour.

Govinda Kabra who runs a rice mill next to the school has promised to donate slabs to fix the sewage outlet but there are no signs of repair.

The water supply to the school has been cut off and the children have to depend on a tube-well for their need of water.

Principal Radha Sharma said that the school was in mess owing to the neglect of the concerned agencies, non-governmental organisations and the local social workers. She said the meager assistance from the government was not sufficient to keep the school in proper condition.

The school currently has six teachers, five of them female, who offer education to 60 deaf children from Grade I to VI in symbolic language.
