Woman Taken To Shands Gainesville With Severe Burns
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 28-year-old Jacksonville woman suffered severe burns over 75 percent of her body when her boyfriend set her on fire, according to police.
Alexis Pintato was taken to the Burn Center at Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
Early Monday morning, police said, they found the woman in the front of her apartment on Princeton Square Boulevard in Baymeadows after neighbors called 911.
Pintato claimed her boyfriend set her on fire using an accelerant while they were arguing, police said.
"I only hear when she is crying and screaming to someone help me," a neighbor said. "That's the only thing I heard. When I heard that, I came with my husband outside to see what happened, who is crying or screaming. I see her on the ground in the grass."
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office SWAT team was called out after police said that man barricaded himself inside the woman's apartment.
After a standoff that lasted several hours, the man came out without incident, police said.
There is no word on charges at this time or a motive.
