Do you have any humorous kid stories (hearing or deaf/HOH theme) you want to share here at AllDeaf?
Here's one of them -- when I was in my First Grade Reading class in 1976-77 school year:
Our teacher told us that we were going to do a play about King Arthur and his Court (there were books about him, ya know).....so she gave all of us a part in this play.
Knowing that I was the only kid with a hearing loss and wearing a hearing aid...so to help me know when my turn to say my lines, she had one of my friends in the class to point at me, and then I'll say my line which was "That's amazing!" I had to say it a couple of times in the play.
The day of the play came....so we all stood in our assigned places on the stage in front of several classes in First Grade. One boy who played "King Arthur" had a major speaking part, so he walked back and forth across the stage speaking....and whenever it was my turn to speak, my friend pointed at me and I said "That's amazing!"...I did this a couple of times whenever my cue was on.
Well....the boy kept speaking...so I was looking at my friend's finger behind her back waiting for my cue again....and then I noticed her finger was up. So I shouted "That's amazing!"
The "king" stopped in his tracks, my friend had her hand in her face, and the audience roared with laughter. I was kind of embarrassed.....my teacher just smiled and told me to stay on stage until my part to leave. Then the play was over.
