When cab drivers refuse service to blind customers with seeing eye dogs

Talk about a cultural clash. Even though the reasoning is based in religion, sounds like Islam does allow for flexibility but a lot of Muslims are culturally ingrained to hate dogs in general.

If these cab drivers really don't want to take a dog, they should at least call a colleague on the spot and get another cab there ASAP. Driving off or locking your doors is just rude and pathetic, no matter what your religious beliefs.

A lot of situations could be avoided if blind clients announced they have a guide dog so the cab companies can assign a non-Muslim driver. If I had a guide dog I'd announce it anyway, for identification purposes, if for no other reason.

That said, I'm glad I don't have to deal with this crap.

ah yes.... yes...... keep it coming. more Islamic hate. yes yes more please.

"When hotdog vendors refuse to serve real hot dog...."
"When restaurants refuse to serve to scantily-dressed patrons...."

well - there are hundreds of other cabbies on same street. yes this sucks but just simply wave down another cabbie. This is typical in NYC.

Some taxi drivers do refuse service to you for any other reasons such as driving to a certain location, type of people, or # of people. Most of time - it's for driver's safety reason.

You see it as Islamic hate, I don't.

I see it as ignorance towards the blind and the need for the guide dog.

Jiro, I've had similar experiences like this from all walks of life towards me and my white cane.

Are you this dense, Jiro?

This happened at other places too as well.

New Orleans, Cincinnati, Edmonton Canada, Florida and so on.

Try to think outside of the box and it may help you.

So far from you, it's flawed logic.

What are you think about Islam?

Where do you get Islam from Kokonut's post?

It was Jiro's irrational post.

This goes to show how some people still have a hard-on trolling Kokonut.

ignorance? then you must be ignorant toward people's religion. You are being disrespectful to Muslim people by saying - "I don't care. my needs is more important than your religion."

this article is about NYC. I'm sure it has happened in other area but I'm talking specifically about this article.

Is it not a flawed logic to establish a pattern in here?

If you read the article - it has mentioned "Muslim" 54 times and "Islam" 24 times. This poster is notorious for posting anti-Islamic articles. Perhaps the thought has never occurred to you that kokonut still has a hard-on trolling Muslim people and Islam?

Again, where do you get this "my needs is more important than your religion", where did I say that?

This is what I said ..

Accuse me all you want but look at yourself first in the mirror before you point a finger to me. You have 4 pointing back at yourself.

Which is exactly what I'm advocating. Guide dog users should announce they have a dog when calling for a cab so the cab dispatcher can assign the ride to a driver who doesn't mind dogs. If you're in NYC and you just happen to hail down a cab driver who's opposed to dogs for whatever reason (Islam or not), the you can easily hail another cab.

If you're not in NYC and the street isn't chock full of cabs, then the cab driver should at least call in a replacement. It's the least they could do. Don't have to transport the dog, don't abandon the blind customer. It's win-win.

I said it was a cultural clash. Don't see how that's blaming any one side more than the other. The responsibility falls on both sides to resolve the situation.

I am guessing you're missing the headline? i am very aware of the taxi services in Edmonton... and what group of drivers discriminate against what.

The Sikhs are the most friendly, if I have to over-generaize. :D

Which is exactly what I'm advocating. Guide dog users should just seek other cab drivers. I said it was a cultural clash. Don't see how that's blaming any one side more than the other. But like I said, it sounds like dog hate is pretty ingrained based on a lot of the drivers' reactions. And if the driver doesn't have an actual allergy to the dog, the health and safety reasons are invalid. Guide dogs are highly trained and highly groomed. They're not just like any other dog.

I guess it is just us, the DeafBlind community who can see fit to reason in this debacle.

So sad.

did you not read the article? did you not see why and who refused the service to patron with service dog?

This article is SPECIFICALLY talking about Muslim people refusing to give service to patron with service dog - store, taxi, etc. Here's the link for you to read before you start angrily waving your white cane at me.

Muslim Taxi Drivers vs. Seeing-Eye Dogs :: Daniel Pipes (notice how kokonut reworded the exact title of the article)

Accuse me all you want but look at yourself first in the mirror before you point a finger to me. You have 4 pointing back at yourself.
still using that old line?

if you're in a place that isn't chock full of cabs, the chance is you called one in. You should know that when you call one in - you should notify them that you have a service dog.

but you are right that they should at least extend a courtesy to call in another one.

When I lived in Ottawa, there was a cab service I didn't use and it was because the drivers did not adhere to the common courtesy rules. It wasn't about the countries they came from or their heritage. They would take the $10.00 and not give change when the fare was only $5.65.

I'd demand the change back and they would put up a fight to the point they would haggle for the change to keep!

I do feel some people have their opinions I think they need to keep to themselves because they do go overboard with it to the point they become very redundant with it.

yesterday - NYC has announced that its (secret) investigation have found over 600 cabbies overcharging the patrons. They will punish them.

This article mentioned tons of different places, from the U.S. to Canada to Norway to Australia. Not just NYC.
