I emailed the people in charge of Emagine (Movie theater) requesting Open captioned as there are plenty of Deaf residents living within 30 miles from its location.

Then I got an email back from the person in charge saying that the "general audience" don't like OC and only provide CaptiveView system.

I tried searching for CaptiveView system and came up with nonsense, so I have no idea what that is.

Can anyone please fill me in?

Also, I'm trying to push them to get OC so I'm curious if anybody have successfully done that?

both are annoying for me. I rather words are ON the movie.
I know that OC is most preferable for alot of deaf audiences like you and me but I suspect that the theaters don't want to lose money on OC movies that only a few deaf people watch so they use those new technologies in order to combine all audiences to save money, IMO. I wouldn't blame the theaters but to blame deaf people who don't go to watch OC movies. When I went to watch a movie with OC, there were usually about four deaf people showing up in one showtime. That's bad for business.

I will try Sony DV one day but I don't think I will like it. All I have to do is to be patient waiting for a new release on DVD/BD. I am sure many deaf people do that now (waiting and waiting for a captioned movie to be released for home entertainment).

It took a little getting used to at first, because the captions move with your head. If you tilt your head, the captions tilt with it. If you move your head up or down, the captions move with it.

But it wasn't too long before I got used to it and I was ignoring the "weirdness" of it. I just enjoyed the movie at that point.

I don't think I can keep my head still for two hours with my old neck.
