Well water..UGH!

What you described "Rust" and smell horrible, I assume it smells like rotten eggs. That is sulfur! It is not really rust, just a mineral called Sulfur and that is what smells bad and makes stuff looks like rusty.

Filtering is NOT cheap, these so called filter from home center do really little! If you want good one like what my friend had installed, cost him well over 12K bucks to get it like city quality water! They do by automatically chlorinate them then dechlorine them, and went though special chambers which actually removes these stuff outta of water.
Not many area wells water comes out superb quality, I know few wells that got ultra fresh and cleanest quality water, far better than city water.

I wouldn't want well water, still prefer city so that they take care of these stuff so I don't worry too much.

Since i live out in the country, majority of us country folks do have well water and it is awful and it is unfit for me to drink..it tastes and smells funny cuz of all the minerals and all in it..ugh! so we buy lots of bottled water and
i have filtered water in my refrigerator and icemaker too...Thank goodness!
There is rust in it and it show rust in my toilet, sinks, etc so had to buy rust
remover to scrub out the rust, geez! I had no experience with well water before in Okla so had to learn about from some people around here on what to do about how to remove the rust..do any of you have well water and have
bad experience with it and how do you get rid of rust stains and all??
Would love some tips or any advice on it! Thanks!!
Oh by the way, i have to watch that filter in my refrigerator to make sure it
is still good as the man at the appliance store said it might last between 4 to
6 months depending how bad the minerals and rust is! geez..

I have the same problem with well water. My toilets, tub, sinks & shower had yellow rust that I could not remove. I tried "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner and it instantly took away the rust. You can actually watch it work, it's amazing stuff! It works best if you remove most of the water in the toilet (by forcing the water down, I use a toilet brush). There will still be some water in the toilet but not much. Just use it like you would regular toilet bowl cleaner, but you may want to leave it in the bowl for a couple minutes to remove the yellow on the very bottom of the bowl.
It is supposed to be just for toilets but I use it in the shower, sinks & tub. I AM IN NO WAY SUGGESTING OR RECOMMENDING TO ANYONE TO USE THIS PRODUCT OTHER THAN WHAT THE DIRECTIONS SAY. I AM JUST STATING HOW I USE THE PRODUCT AND WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME.
WARNING: It is VERY potent stuff, the area must be VERY well ventilated and I use a mask when I use it anywhere other than the toilet. It has also damaged my faucets (which I've had to replace) so I don't use it on anything metal. It has even discolored my stainless steel kitchen sink in a few small places. I only use this stuff in my shower, tubs & sinks like once a month or when they seem to get that yellow look to them. But I use it weekly in the toilet.
They have "The Works" spray that you can use for other surfaces, but it didn't work for me.
I buy "The Works" at WalMart (for about $1.00). I don't know where else they may sell it. Hope this helps! Take Care.

Oh wow! "The Works" products is only for $1.00?? what a bargain! I have seen it somewhere but didnt look at the price of it..holy cow! I use "Super
Iron Out" rust stain remover and it works very well for removing the dang rust
stains in toilet, shower stalls, sinks, ect! BUT! this stuff SMELLS sooo bad that
i have to open the windows and wear the mask! its worth it cuz IT WORKS VERY WELL and i have tried other stuff and dont work as well as this one!
So i guess i will just stick with this one...
What works for you and what works for me is great huh? hahaha

Yeah i realize what we are smelling is sulphur, not rust but the orangey stuff
is rust. Thats why we have to use the product called "Super Iron Out" Rust stain remover to remove the rust in the toilets, shower stalls, tub, sinks, etc.
We will check with Home Depot to see if they do have water filter system or not..maybe there is not such thing, really to take care of well water crap, heh.
Im like you, i prefer City water too....I miss it sooo much...:(

Well, most small city, such as suburb of Buffalo have city water and crime rate is low but crime is happen in anywhere, also many people who live in rural area or small city are using water from water tower in midwest region and west region.

Yeah, i know that....There is NO water towers around here at all!! That is why
we have to use well waters....all of us country people who live out here HAVE
to use well waters, period. We have no choice at all. If we had any choice between using well waters and getting from water towers, We would definetly use water from WATER TOWER!!! but not, we are stuck with well
water.
And for your information, crime in Buffalo is bad!! just recently an 18 year old
boy just shot two police officers, one is in serious condition and may be paralyzed for life (not sure yet)..come on, get real..it is very bad in Buffalo and I know crime is everywhere but in Buffalo and as well in big cities, there are a lot of shootings and murders...yikes. im not about to get in line of it, ok? you get my drift?
have a nice day and Merry Christmas!

This is ridiculous....How in the dickens do you delete the post if you accidentally post twice?? I cant find the delete button anywhere?? crikey!
Im trying to delete the first post and i cant do that...HELP!!!

Just get a filter system, and a reverse osmosis system... it'll probably all end up costing you $400-$500, but RO water is the best possible water to drink. It's better than distilled because it keeps the minerals that are naturally in it, but removes everything else.

The other alternative for Defee and her husband is to get an economical filter that connects to the hot water tank, a filter that just removes up to 90% of the "heavy' stuff that is currently a problem for them and may be good enough for them. Any higher level of filtration comes with a considerably higher price.

Yup... I got your drift but little out of line. I know that Buffalo (city limit) isn't good area and suburb of Buffalo, suburb means out of city limit and better life quality than city of Buffalo.

For well water then buy filter to removes most of mineral or call plumbing then they can give an information about get clean water from well.

How old are your well? what's built with drilled or driven?
