hello!! i am curious about getting an alpha numeric pager with two way service so i can email

from my research pagers get better service than cell phones
and they look like they may operate on regular batteries (which would be ideal for me)

i have had a hard time finding service providers though and was hoping to get as much help as possible on service providers, pager suggestions and anything else

the reason im looking into this and not a smart phone or using SMS on a cell is that i will be hiking the AT (appalachian trail) and intend on being in the wilderness away from cell towers as well as battery life, and hopefully price!! seeing as this trip will be costly im trying to be as thrifty as possible but maybe still have a way of getting in touch with loved ones

thanks so much!! ^_^

if you are away from cell phone service areas then you are not going to be able to get any type of text send or received unless you go with a satellite phone or something like SPOT II Satellite GPS Messenger - Special Edition Adventure Kit at REI.com

If you are looking for a basic messaging device check out [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Peek-Messaging-Lifetime-Service-Included/dp/B002MXXBKY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1294971678&sr=8-2]Amazon.com: Peek Pronto Mobile Messaging Device with Lifetime Service Included (Grey): Electronics[/ame]

the device is only $50 if you want to pay monthly fee instead
