Two Teens Charged with Plotting to Kill Students at the Va. School for the Deaf and Blind

Virginia State Police say they've charged two teen boys with conspiracy to commit murder of more than two people at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton.

Police say they received word of a variety of threats, but in this case, they say there were threats against specific people. The plot had the potential to be very serious.

The campus at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind was quiet Thursday with students and faculty away on holiday break. But this fall, police say, the school came close to chaos. Two teens plotted to attack the school.

State Police say two boys have been charged in juvenile court. One from Augusta County, another from Arlington, Virginia.

Police say the boys were enrolled in the school but not taking classes on campus at the time for administrative reasons.

"If they had the intent of following through with their plans, it would have been very serious. quite serious, actually," said Lt. Joe Rader of the Virginia State Police.

They say the boys made threats against specific people at the school including students.

"Well, I'm not going to say if it was going to involve shootings or not, but it would have been very tragic for the community. There would have been a lot of questions asked, let's just put it that way," said Lt. Rader.

School administrators came forward with information, which police say may have prevented the attack.

School administrators declined to comment, but Rader went on to say that there is no longer a threat to the school or community. The two boys charged with the crime are due in court for a hearing next week. Students will return to the school Sunday to resume classes after winter break.
