This is the scene firefighters arrived at. A two story home leveled shortly after flames erupted around 10:30 Thursday morning. Trapped inside was an elderly invalid woman confined to a bed. She likely watched the house around her burn before she finally died. Her son was likely in a second floor room when it started. A second son, both mute and deaf ran across acres of property before he could get help. Both of them were burned very badly. Its likely they died before being incinerated. By the end of the day there were 11 animals inside the house. Nearly 50 others were scattered about the property appearing to be in good health. It was so difficult for trucks to get close to the fire because they had to run nearly 100 yards of hose. There was also debris and junk littered all over the property. As for the Youngs some neighbors tell us they were so quiet and kept to themselves, in fact many, who didn't want to go on camera said they didn't even know Rose Young was still alive. Darrell Young is the surviving family member. Family Services was notified that he will need assistance since he was both deaf and mute. As for the nearly 50 animals still on the property. The Jefferson County Dog Warden was there trying to capture some of them running loose.
