Sir, Your article “Deaf toddler’s parents win NHS battle”, (August 2) highlighted the profound differences that having two cochlear implants can make to the lives of deaf children.
RNID, the charity for deaf and hard-of-hearing people, has been concerned for some time that some covert rationing has been going on. We are calling on the Government and local health authorities to ensure that these operations are offered to the parents of children who could benefit.
The profound effect on a child of having two cochlear implants in terms of their progress in later life certainly justifies the cost.
