"We believe God has given Deaf people a unique perspective and unique gifts. The Body of Christ remains broken and fragmented while Deaf people are separate and their gifts unknown and strange to most Christians. We believe God is calling us to wholeness."

adj.
Being the only one of its kind: the unique existing example of Donne's handwriting.

Informal. Unusual; extraordinary: spoke with a unique accent.

I would agree that they often do have unique perceptions and gifts, and that these gifts (and the unusual missions they may allow dhh people to fulfill) are of great worth.

But, just the same, I also think that hearing people can have gifts that are unusual or also of great worth. And even some of the more "common" gifts we can have...yeah, we come "a dime a dozen", but if one of us is missing, then the "dozen" is incomplete. ;)

Not sure how much sense this makes? Basically I'm trying to say that it's great to be aware of the scarce, valuable gifts that dhh people can have. But I think mutual appreciation is the best standard to be working for.
