Hok Kim is an associate professor of mathematics at Grand View College in Des Moines. She was born and raised in Korea.

In 1985, she came to America and went to college as a sophomore transfer student and worked to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics from North Carolina State University in 1993. She also has a minor in Japanese.

Kim has taught at several universities, including Chowan College in North Carolina, Frostburg State University in Maryland and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. While working in Maryland, she volunteered to teach a basic Japanese course and tutored a deaf student. The experience inspired her to study American Sign Language.

Kim is a member of many professional organizations and several college committees She has served on the board of directors for the Midland Credit Union and the Asian American Council. She also worked as a volunteer for the Asian Heritage Festival, Korean Cultural Center, Special Olympics, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Mercy Medical Center and Habitat for Humanity.
