Purpose of this Thread
this is a safe haven for people like dreama who strongly do not believe in animal testing for medical purpose. For you who supported animal testing - your voices have been heard and noted many times in other threads and keep it there please. It's time we give same and equal opportunity for those who are against animal testing - no matter how ludicrous it sounds. But hey... look at what happened to Galileo who said sun is the center of the universe.

Rules of this Thread
1. Please NO bashing
2. Please NO debate. This thread is not in debate section.
3. Please share POSITIVELY - this thread is for people to share their views positively about non-animal medical testing.
4. Please no need to provide links. Just say it in your own word... as logically as possible... and as intellectually as possible...
4. Please NO sarcasm, NO insults, NO NOTHING. POSITIVE posts please!

lastly - PLEASE give them chance to discuss without fear of being chastised.

If you wish to be a fucking twat and start bashing... I will SHIT on you and I will ask mod to delete all dissents' posts :mad2:

I think it is appropriate to start this thread... Are there anyone out there who is a survivor of non-animal tested medicines? Speak up and enlighten us! :cool2:

No comment...just suggesting that this be moved to the Health, Fitness, and Lifestyles forum since it is not specifically about deaf/Deaf culture.

Sadly, current laws make it illigal to provide medicine to people without testing them on animals first. This is being changed at the moment. I donated 300 pounds to an organisation who is trying to varify non animal methods but unfortunately the scheme fell through due to lack of funding. I let them keep my money to spend in non animal research into cancer.

However I used to take Tegretol. It causes cancer in rats. They decided to pass it through anyway. Luckily I've taken it for epilepsy and am yet to suffer from cancer despite taking more then the prescibed dose due to mental health issues. Curiously enough it now seems that it causes some people to be suicidal. So I no longer take it. I do not however suffer from cancer which proves that although the rats were tested on this drug the data that was obtained from them was totally irrevelant so it may just as well not have been tested at all. Plus their has been no record as far as I know of any suicidal rats.

Also My dad has a heart condition. He has decided not to take any of his animal tested medicine for heart condition. Instead he is taking various herbal remedies. Which does not need to be animal tested as far as I know. Also he is on a Dairy free and Piescotarian diet (vegitarian who eats fish) to reduce Colesterol. Several years later he is still alive and well. Despite avoiding ALL the animal tested drugs he was given to take.

I always buy non-tested-animals products at several health food stores. They are always expensive. Buying something very cheap price at a regular store contain poor quality with complicated formula names on the ingredients which is not healthy.

I believe that cheap quality of a shampoo or soap, sometimes it could develop some health problems slowly in a long term unexpectedly.

Here is a perfect example on the news that two schools were tested and found uranium in the drinking water. The state lab said that it is a safe due a very low amount of level dose. If I pour from that water in my plant, then the plant would be dying next day for sure. Suppose if you drank a toxic material water for example mercury removal from a dentist, a natural coal pills will absorb them and bring them to the toilet without releasing the toxic into the stomach. It's a natural. I did not get sick from the pills for about one week after my dentist appointment.

A small amount of turmeric powder makes your blood thinner instead of a Coumadin. I would want to try the powder if I have my own lab to make sure that my blood level is correct for my heart condition. Tumeric is very powerful and much thinner than Coumadin that I would not want to get the wrong dose. Coumadin has another chemical to eliminate the clotting in the vessel that tumeric does not have. I just have to live with the Coumadin.

I survived thru my temporary feeding tube in my stomach after my heart surgery. I had a similar to MRSA. My chiropractor gave me a one gallon(?) powder of Whey Protein (Jay Robb's - probably from a GNC store) for two months. I had enough to be scare from the "MRSA" because I was very close to die.

In fact, I do not trust some modern medicines AND herbs so I have to make a best judgement by researching on the internet especially true blogs - like you. Thanks, Jiro.

thank you guys for sharing. yes it is true that most are wary of modern medicines as they have side effects but quite a handful of them are beneficial. When modern medicine fails, the people switch to alternative medicine. obviously it is expensive but healthy.

problem is - if we all start using alternative medicine... the Earth will be raped of its natural resource and it would be depleted quickly. Yes we can try to grow it in greenhouse but it is not easy and it is costly. it may not even function the same as naturally-grown plant - it must be grown in its natural environment. That is the whole point of modern medicine. The scientists create a synthetic version of that herbal medicine. The scientists continue to try to create a potent version of herbal medicine which a handful of you benefited from it for severe problems such as bipolar condition and anti-depression.

Hey...pssst - I am confused when I looked up it said " On topic Debates " since you said " Please NO debate. This thread is not in debate section. " :hmm:

Oh, wow! I am glad you know what is the best for you. I support organic myself, because I am usin' them for food as well. And, yes they are a bit expensive but, it is worth it for health reason. :)

dammit the mod moved me :mad2:

Point made. There are no treatments available that do not involve animal testing. There is a very good reason for this.

Not quiet true. It is very expensive. They are required to show the FDA that it is safe on non-tested-animal products. It cost a small company from hundred of thousands of dollars to a few million dollars before they start up a business. i.e. $50,000 to $5,000,000. Plus, they have to pay a patent fee for their product. Oh, I forgot that they also have to pay their lawyer to protect the company and its copyright. It is just crazy for a small thing that cost so much money.

indeed. that's why I'm hoping for people like dreama to shed a light on it.. to enlighten us what can be possible without involving animal testing.

That's what I've been doing. I'm sorry if my explanations are not clear enough. It doesn't mean that animal testing is sound.

Some herbal remedies are not tested on animals. Some people manage on these medicines. Some people die from taking animal tested medicine. I had a friend who died from the drug she was taking for Rumatiod Arthritis.

Sure some modern medicines and treatments can help you. They can also make things worse or even kill you.

The only point I want to dispute is the fact that this is down to the animal testing componant since scientists use other methods before and after animal testing and sometimes the evidence they got from testing animals is discarded as being irrevalant. Like with my tegretol. So why do they still do it? I've got no idea. It's not logic or sound to me.

People who are for animal testing don't have any sound backing either. Just because it is done. Doesn't mean it's right. Should we test on humans because of the medical progress that the japanese and Nazi germans got from experimenting on jews and prisoners of war?

That is quite true, and non animal testing tends to be very much under substadied. I believe if the same sort of money went into alternatives that goes into animal testing we would be seeing a lot more medical advances. In fact Animal testing has been around for centures. New alternatives to animal testing (other then relying on case studies and digging up corpses and examining them) have only been round fairly recently.

I know that penicillin came about without testing on animals. In deed it is harmful to some.

We are talking about medications and medical treatments, not other products. Medical research involves animal trials. And yes, it does require time, money, and considerable effort. That is why a medicine placed on the market does not have a generic equivilant for several years after it has been approved.

Oops. I almost changed the subject. Amend. Thanks.

And because herbals are not tested, they are not quality controlled or dosage controlled, either. Many people have died as the result of such.

And, sometimes a product is discarded before it ever reaches the animal testing phase. The fact still remains that you cannot use humans as your first line of testing. It is unethical and strictly forbidden. In order to test on a living organism, which is a mandatory part of the procedure, animals must be used. The only way around it is to use humans for testing medicines and procedures that we know absolutely nothing about. Experimentation as it was conducted in Nazi Germany is exactly what your reasoning proposes.

And because herbals are not tested, they are not quality controlled or dosage controlled, either. Many people have died as the result of such.

and many people died from modern medicines as well. How about this? Why is it that more and more people benefit more from marijuana (a natural herb) than modern medicines? And marijuana's not even animal-tested.
