Support for deaf children in Africa - Community - lep.co.uk

A charity is raising money for a school for deaf children in Uganda.

Deafway in Brockholes Brow, Preston, formed a partnership with a small school called St Anthony’s which is in desperate need of support.

The school, south of Kampala, helps a number of children, such as a six-year-old girl who was born profoundly deaf and abandoned by her parents.

Nicola Bell, from Deafway, said: “Without specialist education, she will never learn to communicate, she will never make friends and she will have a very bleak and quite frightening life to look forward to.

“We need to raise £60,000, that will cover all of the costs for the school to educate 50 deaf children for two years.

“That’s just £24 per child, per week to pay for all the teacher’s salaries, food and accommodation.”

Open days will be held at Deafway on Sunday, February 19 and Saturday, March 3 with short presentations about St Anthony’s taking place at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Free refreshments will be provided
