Lenoir-Rhyne College senior from Rockville, Md., is working as a summer intern for Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-10th District. David Bird, who is deaf, speaks, reads lips and uses e-mail to communicate with McHenry and his staff members. It is Bird’s responsibility to organize information, assist with data entry and prepare summaries. He plans to serve as an advocate for the deaf in the public service sector following his graduation next May.
