Do you have otosclerosis? It works well if you do..

Is there some reason you can't write in complete words??

I am beginning to be annoyed by you.

It worked great for my Mom, she had it done last November and doesn't even need her hearing aid anymore. My aunt also had it done years and years ago, no problems. I would cut her slack, being from India, but they're full sentences, just words written in textese.....Im thinking teenager. At least she hasn't written dat instead of that, holy balls that makes me nuts.

It's so hard for me!! I used to even have it in my signature.

"Endeavor to spell correctly is one of my maxims." :P

I agree in the sense that I much prefer good English spelling and grammar. But . . . I find this "textese" much easier to read than those that write in ASL! And I have done very little texting but took beginning ASL two different years (admittedly those courses were way back in the late 1980's).

Textese is based on phonics. And phonics is mostly a mystery for those whose primary language is sign or written English. Maybe those who have a good knowledge of phonics ought to offer translations. Kwit'cher bitch'n and help.

Do you have otosclerosis? It starts with the hardening of the little bones in the ear, and their consequent inability to transmit sound.

As long as that is all affected, and it hasn't gone to the cochlea, the little bones can be replaced with titanium models and enable the person to hear again.

We'll break down the word for you oto (ear) scler (hardening) osis (abnormal) so it's the abnormal hardening of the bones in the ear. The stapeds bone is on the other side of the ear drum, when sound hits the ear drum it vibrates, and in turn vibrates the stapeds bone, and sends the signal to your cochlea, then your auditory nerve. If you have otosclerosis that stapes bone hardens and hardens until it won't vibrate, won't send the signal on down the line. So they take the stapeds bone out and replace it with a fake one.

it is possible that further hardening can make another surgery years down the road necessary. They used to make you wait til your hearing stabilized, otosclerosis is progressive, the harder that bone gets the less it moves the less you can hear. But it's gradual. So they'd make you wait, because back then it would help, or make you completely deaf, but technology is better and that's not much of a risk anymore. Also, another reason to wait is because if it isn't done progressing you might have to have the surgery all over again down the line.

But if you don't even know what otosclerosis is, I doubt you have it, so a stapedectomy isn't likely to help you. Do you know the cause of your hearing loss? Do you know if your loss is bone conduction, sensorineural, or a mix of both?

i was born hearing...7 years back i start feeling i am losing my hearing but at that time it was very mild but later after 4 years i start facing problem in noisy situation so finally a year back i started using cic starkey hear aids but people around me dont know about my hearing loss except my family...according to my reports i have mild bilateral sensorineural hearing loss

Then you have nerve damage, a stapedectomy wouldn't help you I'm sorry :(

I see.... you're late deafened. Understood. Difficulty hearing in noise is just a part of being HOH.....oh and the CICs aren't good for more then mild loss.

i dont have any idea about hear aids...i just wish i dont loose my remaining hearing anymore....day n night i pray for some solution to get back my lost hearing back...i search n search about stem implantation.on google...read few stories of people who got benefit from it...but not much information..

Maybe you need to instead pray for acceptance and gratitude. And if you ever need a stronger HA than CIC, for the courage to overcome cultural issues surrounding the visibility of a physical shortcoming.

I had moderate to severe bilateral sensorineural hearing loss from birth till I got to my early 40's - then the right ear dipped two pitches into profound. Trust me on this, it's the Starkeys that suck. They sold them to you because they're cheap. I hated the sound on mine so I switched to Widex and what a massive improvement. (Hearing aids information - Widex International. Digital Hearing Aids.) One of the audis at the place I go worked at Veterans Affairs - a agency that assists past and current veterans with any needs. She said Starkey just had horrible sound and she really didn't like them. I know why from personal experience.

I don't know how old you are but I wish I had mild hearing loss. This may surprise you but most people have mild hearing loss - they just don't realize it yet. It's unavoidable with traffic, construction, rock concerts, etc. The good news is that the right hearing aids can make a world of difference. What you're feeling is common for those that realize they need hearing aids. Just because you have sensorineural hearing loss doesn't mean it's just going to keep getting worse. My hearing stayed the same in my left ear and hasn't changed. The right dropped but only in the last couple of years. Your hearing may never change so please don't feel hopeless. You can PM me if you have any questions that I can help you with.
